Hey what's up you guys, Marty [Db] Schwartz here with Marty Music.
We're going to break down Green Day, Longview, I know, I can't believe I haven't taught it yet.
[Eb]
Super fun power chord song, you guys are going to dig it.
Also real quick, I appreciate you guys supporting me right here at my own thing, Marty Music.
I even got this cool thing with a bunch of bonuses called Patreon.
You can check out the link in the description below.
Thank you for that, let's break it down.
Alright so we're going to tune our guitar down a half step and then the fun part, well
I don't know if it's fun, but the bass player is the only one playing in the verse so there's
no guitar part there.
But it's good to understand it and it's basically like an E [Db] to D.
[Eb] You [Db] [Eb] know,
[Db] that's what's going on underneath with the bass line.
But the guitar comes in on a D power chord, which is 5th fret A, 7th fret, 7th fret, and
you go da da da da da da da da da da da boom, you know.
[Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] So that's 5th fret [Db] A, [Ebm] [Bb] and then you go to a B power chord and that's the 7th fret.
So 7, 9, 9, and it's kind of like a chugging along, like cha cha cha cha, where it just
gets cut off a little bit.
You're not going, you're going, [Ab]
little bit of relaxing there.
[Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
So B power chord,
[Eb] then down a whole step [Ab] to A power chord, 5th fret, then an E power chord,
which is just scooted over to the A string 7th fret, 7, 9, 9.
So just like a little, [Bb] sweet little box here.
[Ab]
[Eb] And on that E chord, it's not as choppy or staccato.
It's more of, [Bb] so this one.
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb] [Ab] [Eb]
[Bb] [Ab] [Eb]
[Bb] [Ab]
[Eb] So basically you're chugging along and then the very last one before it goes back to the
bass line, it doesn't go to E, it stops on A.
So if you were playing that [Bb] part,
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Db]
right
into the bass line and we're rocking, okay.
So the next time we go through the exact same thing, [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Ab] everything's the same.
The last one doesn't go [Bb] to E, it just goes down to A.
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb] [Ab]
[Eb] Into the, [Db]
[Eb]
[Db] [Eb]
[Db] [Eb]
[Db] [Ab] [Bb]
[Eb] that bridge is just E down to D.
So you're on the 7th fret A string power chord,
and then just down a whole step to the 5th fret.
So, [Db] [Eb]
[Db] [Eb]
[Db] [Eb]
[Db] into the chord.
[Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb]
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
That's it, right?
So you basically just have those two main parts, [C] you know, [Bb] the main,
[Ab] [Eb] and then finally
you've got the bridge, [Db] [G] into the chorus again, bass line, breakdown, and then basically what
you have instead of the [Db] normal, [Bb]
it does it twice as long, and then a quick, on the last
beat of it, it goes to [Db] an A power chord, so it's like,
[Ab] [Bb] [Ab] [Eb]
[Db] so you just think of it like this,
1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, [Ab] 3, 4, [Bb] [Db] into the chorus.
[Ab] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Db] So that's the only, you know, thing to just look out for, it's just longer.
[Ab] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] And then [Eb] finally, when it goes [Bb] to the
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] bass line, you have this, just pretty little,
[Db] as
it fades out.
And that's a fun little thing to know, because remember the song is E to D, so if you took
a D major chord here, [Eb] and you moved it up a whole step, it becomes one letter higher,
one chord higher.
So this little D shape up a whole step is actually an E, and then you add your pinky
to the fifth fret high E, like that, and then if you can stretch to the seventh, and then
a different guitar overdub is going, hitting that high E.
So like if you were in a power
trio playing it, it would be fun to go, and [Ebm]
[Eb] just hit it.
Then you go, [Ab] [Eb] [Db]
I'm just adding [Eb] the pinky, and then off, [Db] then a whole step down.
[Eb]
[Db]
And that's the [Eb] song.
All right, there was a [E] lesson.
Once again, I appreciate you guys watching and supporting.
