[Am] This [Dm] song is the Brothers [Am] Four's most recent recording of [E] Greenfields from the Golden [Am] Anniversary album.
[Dm] I heard [B] the original Brothers Four recording of Greenfields as a kid,
growing up in [Dm] Spokane in the early [Am] 60s.
If someone had said then that I would be part of that group
[Bb] and happily sing [E] that song at every Brothers Four performance 50 years later,
[F]
well, I wouldn't have known what to say [Em] or what to think.
What I say now is, [Dm] wow, what an adventure.
[G] What a journey.
[Am]
You will be hearing a lot more about and from the group in the months to come
about the monumental role it's played and continues to play in my life and career.
[D] There have been changes in personnel over [E] the years, including my joining the group in 1969,
Mike McCoy in 2004, and Carl Olson a few years later.
[Am]
Along with founding member Bob Flick, we are the group now,
[G] representing what the group was all those years ago,
with our love of the music [C] and our affection for one [A] [D]
another.
At a recent concert, Gary [A] Settle, he's a wonderful and talented photographer,
[E] took the pictures [Am] that accompany the [Dm] song.

Once [Dm] there were green [Am] fields kissed [E] by the sun

Once [Dm] there were valleys [Am] where rivers [E] used to run
[F]
Once [G] there were blue skies [C] with white [A] clouds high above
[Dm]
[G] Once there were part of [Am] a [E] lasting love
[Am]
We [Dm] were the lovers [A] who [E] strolled through [F]
green [Am] fields
[Dm] Green [E] [A]
[Am] [Dm] fields are gone [Am] now, marched by [E] the sun
[A]
Gone [Dm] from the valleys [Am] where rivers [E] used to run
[F]
Gone [G] with the cold [C] wind that swept [A] into my heart
[Dm]
[G] Gone with the lovers [Am] who let their [E] dreams be put
Green [Am]

I keep searching [G] when dark [C] clouds hide the [Am] day
I only [D] know there's [Dm] nothing here for [Am] me
Nothing [Dm] in this wide world left [E] for me to see
[Am] But I'm [D] waiting [Am]
till [E] you return
[Am]
[Dm] I'll keep on waiting [Am]
until the [E] day you return

You [G] can't be happy [C] when your [A] heart's on the roll

You can't be happy [Am] until you [E] bring it home
