Hey guys, I think I'll be doing a little series on
Greg Howe moves as a tribute to Greg Howe and I'm
not trying to
give him maybe too much away from his style, but just as a little series I got the idea from
Rick Quick But Slick Licks.
Check this guy [Eb] out, Rick Graham.
He's just incredible.
So I'm just gonna
[F] show you some typical Greg Howe moves [Bb] and licks in a little series I'm doing.
I'm [Eb] sure a lot of people
are going to enjoy this, so I'm gonna give you a first example, and I explain, okay?
Let's go.
[G] [A] [G]
[C] [Bb] So what is this?
This is a lick based [Fm] around a G minor 7 [Em] arpeggio.
[G] [D]
[F] More or less the shape I'm using, [C] so let's go.
[D]
First move, [Bb] so it's a 10 to 13 hammer-on [Dm] on the fifth string.
[C] [Gm]
[G] [Gb]
It's the first [Gm] thing, so
[C] [G]
[C] [Gm] string skip, okay, so
[F] [Fm] just hold.
[E] And then back.
[G]
[D] Then [Gb] again the fifth of the arpeggio.
[G]
[C] And again, it's a beautiful Greg Howe move.
[D]
Slide from [C] 9 to 10.
[F] LF 11.
[D] Hammer-on from 10 to
[G] And the strings come again.
[C] [F] [G] A lot of [Fm] the ups I'm doing here is with [Eb] hybrid picking.
Okay, so you can [C] do it with an upstroke, you know.
[G]
With a hybrid.
[D]
[F] [Em] Okay.
[G]
[A] [C] [Gb]
[Dm] Some nice chromatics, okay?
[G] [C] [Gm] And that ends the lick.
So, [Bb]
[C] [Am] [G]
and again in the musical example, and again.
[C] [G]
[D] Alrighty guys, [Bb] that's the first in the series, so hope you enjoyed.
