[C#m] [G#m] [C#m]
[G#m] [B] All [C#m] love and respect to the musicians [G#m] before, great talented [B] musicians and brilliant players,
[E] [C#m] and that's part of the sound.
[G#m] But [B] as bands go on, there's challenges.
It wasn't my decision to get rid of any musicians.
I wanted to work it out, specifically [D#m] to Marcus Ryan and [B] those things.
[A] And through the three years hiatus that we were taking, because [C#m] Tekanawa Hariti, the drummer,
was going back with his [A] family, we were taking a break.
I had hoped we'd work it out, [C#m] but you see that it wasn't going to work.
[F] And Groundation, that inspiration is me, and I'm not going to just sit [C#m] and not do what I love.
So it's time now, especially in [E] 2018, what's happening in the world, to return [A] to my love,
the Groundation sound.
[F#m]
[A]
Life is change, [F#] and you shouldn't be afraid.
And I know some fans are, big change, what is this?
[F#m]
Change is not bad.
Wait till you hear the album.
Change is [B] great.
When Harrison contacted me to be part of Groundation, I was curious.
I have friends that used to be in the original Groundation, so I was aware of them through that.
I've been listening to reggae for a while, and Groundation has been one of my favorite
American reggae bands.
I've been a Groundation fan for many years, so coming from there to getting to play on
the record [F#m]
is a pleasure.
[A]
It's out there.
There's not a lot of people doing that.
So it's always good to be part of something unique, original, [F#m] and strong, musically.
[A] Yes, it felt good to me.
Did it sound okay to you?
I haven't played a lot of [F#] reggae, to be honest.
I'm mainly a funk and jazz musician, so it's kind of another avenue to explore musically.
Music is love, you know what I mean?
You have to [A] have that kind of [A#] love in your heart.
You have to love the music, and if you love the music, then you have to love people.
You have to love who you work with.
And when we have love in the music, [F#m] then it's going to be great.
To this new album, I think we are [F#] all trying to bring our new influences to the band.
We all have a new [B]
background and bring that to the band.
Harrison came with a lot of the song [F#m] ideas, and we got together in multiple rehearsals
to feel [Em] the songs and to give also [Bm] our interpretation and see [C#m] what we could bring to the table.
These guys are [A] jazz musicians, but when they play reggae music, they play reggae music.
[F#m] It doesn't sound like jazz.
Yeah, here we are with [A] a new group, new grandation, and that's why this [F#m] album is called Next Generation.
