Guitar Lesson: How To Play Heroes by David Bowie chords
Start Jamming...
I mean, let's get real here, folks of the United States of America.
This is the first time in the history of times when you can save the world by simply staying
on the couch.
So of course we are doing Heroes by David Bowie today, but before we begin, I would
like to thank with the most utmost sincerity Mr.
Nicholas Bruce, Mr.
Harry Dawson, and
Ms.
Mary Kathleen Crawford for [C] signing up for the Patreon.
Patreon supporter of the Cause Club, gentlemen [E] and lady, thank you so very, very, very, very much.
Both.
And if you would like to have that kind of fun, the link of [G] course is in the description.
Grab your bad self a D chord and play [D] it for eight beats.
Four, five, six, seven, eight.
And then a G chord and play it [G] for eight beats.
Five, six, seven, [D] eight.
And that, [G] and only that, is the very first thing.
[A] But check out this dark magic.
On your D chord, [G] if you reach for that A string second fret with your pointer finger, I also
like to let go with my middle finger [F#] there for just a moment so that I can reach better.
Give it a pluck [D] and pull off back to D, then we can get that [A] guitar, that's my [D] mouth guitar,
that's going on in the background there.
So D, pointer finger reaches [B] for A2, [D] pull off back to D.
When we go to the G, it's pretty much the same.
It starts the [G] same, but we're going to go [D] same A2 to [G] open pull off, but we're going
to land on [A] our low G [A#] note on the E [G] string third fret.
[D]
[G]
What's more, different things happen in the end section of the G section as the song progresses.
So here's two that I like.
The first one I think I came up with on my own.
You can come up with your own on your own if you figure out something you like.
But let's say you do your G one twice, and then after that you sneak [F#] in and open two
on the low E string.
[D] Then you'll have [G]
[D]
[B] more action going on there.
And one that does happen in the song is that B note goes B, [C#] C, C sharp, chromatically [D] walking
back up to D when it hits the D chord, of course.
[G] And when you're on your G chord, your pointer finger's on the A string second fret already,
so just emphasize that.
Then you're really playing a C add 9 there if you put [Cm] your middle finger on the A string third fret.
And while [G] we do not have the anatomy really to get up to that fourth fret on the A string,
unless you really do weird stuff with your hand there, you can just abandon [C#] everything
as long [Em] as you promise not to strum either [E] E string.
You're still playing a G chord [G] given that D, G, and B [F#] are the notes of a G chord.
So you could [G]
go
[D]
And it totally works.
[G]
[D]
[E] But that was the [B] hard part.
You do your mouth [D#] guitar section there for a [G] couple of times for an intro, [D] and then when
you start to sing, you just switch to D and G.
[G] Sometimes it goes two times, sometimes it goes four times during the singing.
[D]
[G] And then it switches to eight beats of C.
[C]
Four, five, six, back to [D] D.
And here comes the quick changes.
[Am] Four beats A minor, four [Em] beats E minor, eight [D] beats D.
And then four beats [C] C, [G] four beats G, [D] back to D.
[G]
[D]
[G]
[D] [N] And that's it!
You do that over and over and over and over again, and you are playing Heroes by David Bowie.
You are being an actual hero by staying on the couch.
And almost Heroes is my favorite Chris Farley movie.
Please, in the comments, what is your favorite Chris Farley movie?
Thank you all so much for being here.
I hope that was fun and helpful, and I will see you next time with more stuff.
Goodbye.
