[F] of guitar of the day
[A]
The first weird-ass Wednesday of
2019
No, yes guitar today [A] kids.
We're getting wacky and weird.
I did get an email
For a birthday shout out today.
Happy birthday to Kyle Vosbro
Berg Vosbur
From his wife from his wife Mandy sent me this he graduated from Wadsworth High in 2000
So that's my alma mater the Wadsworth Grizzlies man.
Happy birthday, dude.
Thanks for watching the show
Wadsworth follows me everywhere.
I go can't get rid of
There you go.
But yeah, it's weird-ass Wednesday
You guys are gonna really really like this.
It's rare and it's weird
Check it out
Come on back.
This is from 1968
This is an original Dan Electro
[Am] Electric sitar otherwise known as the baby [N] sitar
Original tobacco sunburst finish on gourd body single lipstick pickup original leg rest
And of course the gourd headstock as well
the gourd
Yeah, this is one of the rarer of the Dan Electro models
This is less than less than a hundred of these were ever made they only did them in 68 and 69
First
Let's break down a couple of different brands and we can explain this a little bit better Dan Electro and Silvertone
Kind of the same exact thing then there's another company that gets thrown in there as well called coral
so Dan Electro and
Silvertone are basically identical Dan Electro branded instruments went to music stores
Okay, Silvertone branded instruments went to Sears
So yeah, you have the Sears Silvertone, but the Dan Electro stuff was what was branded for specific music store
Retail locations would sell that so there wouldn't be a price competition
Then coral got introduced a little bit later on trying to be kind of the higher-end
Version of Dan Electro because Dan Electro really was made to be a budget level kind of catalog guitar
So Vinnie Bell who was one of the top session guys in New York kind of?
Partner with Dan Electro and they started the coral brand from that spawn the coral electric sitar which we have done
before
That one is far more complex than this
That's got the two lipstick pickups the whole series of drone strings chromatically tuned on the side with the pickup under that
a
little more authentic
Sounding Dan Electro wanted to come out with a slightly more budget version because the sitar was kind of taking off as a thing
At this point so they came up with this with they called the pancake body or the gourd
Body because it looked kind of like a pumpkin kind of looks like a pancake to
Style this pick guard is rad check this out the sparkle in there.
This is actually clear plastic which gets painted.
I'm sorry
It's painted from underneath.
It's similar to how rickenbacker did their guard
So they hit like the sparkle and white and then you know the little curly Q stuff the original leg rest
Which is rad because this is not a very ergonomical Shaped body
Just kind of sits right on your leg
We have the sitar matic bridge, which there's also on the higher-end model
Which basically you have like a aluminum tailpiece here and these strings literally just sit right on the bridge
[A] And kind of make the string fret out, you know in a way and that's what creates the sound
We have the pickup here beautiful rosewood fingerboard brass nut on all of these
the gourd headstock and of course we have the
Clues on deluxe tuners and the second strap button on the back along with the original hardshell case.
Oh
Which is cut to just so brilliantly fit that leg rest
The other thing that's rads.
It's only one pickup.
So I only got to do like two songs one song today
It generally wants to get out of here today.
It's weird ass Wednesday.
We got a weird rad guitar
It makes it kind of excited about it.
Let's go out to the couch.
Let's plug it in see what it can do
Alright, we're out front.
We have the 1968 Dan electro electric sitar or the baby sitar
original tobacco sunburst finish with the leg rest single
Lipstick pickup.
We're going through the 64 custom deluxe reaver from fender today all EQs at noon just a little bit of reverb
Let's check this thing out.
