[N] Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Pomazano here, and I'm on Facebook.
I'm basically never on Facebook.
My cousin David Rodriguez, who is a bitchin' guitar player down in Florida, posted that
this mammoth WVH, Wolfgang Van Halen's, he said, is a really moving tribute to his father.
If you're watching the video, get the tissues ready.
And I figured, you know, because I'm a YouTuber and I make videos and I always have a camera
right here at my desk, I figured I would just hit the button and record it.
You know, maybe I'll post it, maybe I won't.
If you are seeing this and I do post it, it's definitely going to be demonetized.
If you do see an ad, the money's obviously going to go to Wolfie.
It's not going to me.
There's not going to be any links in here.
Before I hit this, though, I just want to say on a side note, I know that me, like a
lot of you, have been binging everything Eddie Van Halen since he passed away.
I've listened to every record front to back, a bunch of interviews, watching a bunch of
old concerts, reading books, all in an effort to try to get to know about the man a little
more and not just the music.
And so let's just do it.
Let's click the button here.
Let's click the button.
Well, let's read what Wolfie has to say here.
He goes, as my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what
my life would be like without him and how terribly I'd miss him.
While the song is incredibly personal, so I guess he wrote this tune, I think anyone
can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life.
I never intended Distance, so that's the name of the tune, Distance, to be the very first
piece of music people would hear from me.
But I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release.
So he'd been working on it before he died.
This is for him.
I love and miss you, Pop.
Wolfgang Van Halen.
Proceeds will be donated to Pop's favorite charity, Mr.
Holland's Opus Foundation.
I'll put a link to that in the description.
Here we go.
[C] Go up to, uh Yeah.
[Eb]
I love you, Daddy.
I love you.
Meet [N] me up in the, uh
Come.
We gotta clean up above the garage and build a little studio for you and me.
Or for you.
[Em] Bye, Pop.
[G] [Em]
[G] [Em] [G] I'm so happy [Em] you found [G] a place that's better for you [C] than this rock [G] we're in now.
[Em] Real quick.
I don't mean to start and stop this a bunch, but I've never seen him play classical piano
before, and it's so interesting to see.
You can see he thinks about it the same way he thinks about the double tapping on the guitar neck.
It's the same
It looks the same, you know?
[G] For you, [C] and this [G] rock we're in now.
I'm so nervous.
[Em] Don't [G] know my place.
[Bm] A life [G] without you.
[Em] I'm not ready to move [G] on.
[A] No matter [G] what the distance is, I will be with you.
No [A] matter what the [Em] distance is, you'll be [C] okay.
[Em] I'm [G]

[G] [Em]
[G] so tired.
[Em] You [G] see your face.
[Em] My memory [G] of you [C] slowly fades when I go on.
[Em] I'm [G] still crying.
[Em] Don't want [G] this place.
[Em] A world [G] without you.
Don't [C] think I'll ever move on.
[A] No matter what the distance is [C] I'll be with you.
No [A] matter what the distance is, I'll [C] be with you.
No [A] matter what the distance is, I'll [C] be with you.

[G] I'm so happy I [Em] found the place.
[N] I'm just so happy to have you as my son-in-law.
So proud of you.
I love you so much.
Call me if you get a chance.
I want to hear your voice.
Okay?
I love you.
What a great way to finish it, man.
You know, normally I would dissect the song and all that, and I think it's pretty clear.
You know, it's really a touching tribute.
I love the end with the phone call.
I love that little piece.
It's like, okay.
I love you so much.
Call me if you get a chance.
I want to hear your voice.
Okay?
I love you.
And a little breakup with I love you after that.
That's the real stuff, man.
That's the real stuff.
You know, I wonder whether I should push my kids to play music or not or anything else.
I think we all as parents kind of struggle what the right and wrong thing is to do.
And we all have our own demons and our own things that we project into the world, you know.
But I think at the end of the day, you know, you are not your parents.
Your parents are not their parents.
Your kids will not be you.
And I don't even know where I'm going with that.
But you know, he was just, he was, he was, Wolfie, you know this.
I mean, he was somebody that, you know, you drop a rock into the pond and the ripples
go out farther than you can see.
So many people, myself included, you know, play guitar because of him.
And it's a tremendous loss for everyone.
And I'm just going to leave it there, man.
Feel your pain, brother.
It's an awesome tribute to your dad.
Wishing you and your family the absolute best.
And take care out there.
