Hello it's me the ukulele teacher here to teach you how to play Hakuna Matata from the hit Disney
movie The Lion King.
So grab your uke, [F] make sure it's in [C] tune [Am] and [N] get ready to play Hakuna Matata.
Hakuna Matata is a great motto to have.
What's a motto?
Well it's a kind of inspirational
catchphrase.
So the chords you'll need for this song are C, F and G which you probably already
know but if you don't you might want to check out my beginner's guide to the ukulele video first.
Plus you'll also need the chords of D, G7 and A minor.
Let me take you through all the chords
quickly now.
To play the chord of C put your third finger on the third fret of the first string
and C should sound like [C] this.
To [F] play the chord of F put your first finger on the first fret of
the second string and your second finger on the second fret of the fourth string and F should
sound like this.
To play the chord of G put your first [G] finger on the second fret of the third string
your second finger on the second fret of the first string and your third finger on the third fret
of the second string and G should sound like this.
[D] To play D put your first second and third fingers
on the second fret of the fourth third and second strings and D should sound like this.
To play G7 put your first finger on the first fret of the second string, [G] your second finger
on the second fret of the third string and your third finger on the second fret of the
first string.
And if you look at it you'll notice it's a kind of upside down G shape
so that should make it easier to remember.
And G7 should sound like this.
And to play
A minor you just want to put your second finger on the second fret of the fourth string and
leave the other three strings open.
And the reason you use your second finger and not
your first finger is so that you can easily move between A minor and [F] F.
[Am] [F]
A [Em] minor should
[Am] sound like this.
This song is just four lines long so I'm going to break it down for you
line by line.
The first line is just F and C [Abm] and then the second line is F, D and [F] G7.
And as it's a really slow intro to the song you can just play one downstroke on each chord
to begin with.
Hakuna Matata, [C] what a wonderful phrase.
[F] Hakuna Matata, [Dm]
ain't no [G] passing craze.
And then from the third line onwards you can just start strumming.
The strumming pattern
that I'm going to play is just down, down, up, up, down, up like [F] this.
Down, down, up,
up, down, up, down, down, up, up, down, up, down, down, up, up, down, up.
So the third
line is just A minor, F, D and the fourth line is C, G, C.
[Am] Let me show you that with
the strumming.
It means no worries [F] for the [D] rest of your day.
[C] It's our problem free [G]
philosophy.
[C] Hakuna Matata.
So let's put the whole thing [F] together.
Hakuna Matata, [C] what a wonderful
phrase.
Hakuna [F]
Matata, [D] ain't [G] no passing craze.
[Am] It means no worries [F] for the [D] rest of your days.
[C] It's our problem free [G] philosophy.
[C] Hakuna Matata.
And then the second time around you can play
it again exactly the same, but this time strum all the way through.
[F] Hakuna Matata, what a
[C] wonderful phrase.
[F] Hakuna Matata, [D] ain't no [G] passing craze.
It means [Am] no worries for the [D] rest of your
days.
[C] It's our problem free [G] philosophy.
[C] Hakuna Matata.
And if you like at the end, you can just
play a C, F, C to stop.
And that's how to play Hakuna Matata from the Lion King.
