in their present tense.
Let's just, I'm gonna meet a legend.
Are you ready for a legend?
[C] So let's just remind ourselves who that legend is.
[G]
[Em]
[A] Come on, please.
Oh yes, have we got a bit of another one?
[D] It is of course, [Am] Marvin!
Great to have you here, mate.
[N] The inventor, creator, inventor, originator
of a great and amazing sound.
And all of these [A] people, you know,
from David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler,
Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck,
they all cite you as their first.
All gullible.
They all liked you first.
And what was it that was different about you
that you were as a guitarist
when you first started playing?
What was it that was different about you?
I was just weird.
Is that, give us, show us some of that weirdness.
I think what it was, two things really, Jules.
One was the echo I used.
It's a bit weird tonight, but don't worry about that.
And the second thing I'd learned to,
with heavy strings on those days, use this thing here.
So you can get, I don't know,
[Eb] [D]
[Bm] [Em] where you couldn't, you know, do the finger thing
because the strings were heavy.
And it was a sound which people kind of liked,
you know, like the intro of the [A] Frightened City.
And [B] so on and so on.
It's a unique, amazing sound.
Thank you, thank you.
Keep talking.
And tell us about the guitar,
because that was another thing.
The red guitar is a trait.
Everybody knows that red guitar.
Yeah, well, Cliff bought me the very first guitar.
We bought it directly from the US of A,
and it was the first Strat in the country.
And this is a [N] copy of that Strat.
It's a series of signature models
that Fender Custom Shop made,
based on that 59 Stratocaster.
Where's that first original one?
Well, actually, this is an interesting little story.
Bruce Welsh has it at the moment,
but it really still belongs to Cliff.
He lent it to Bruce, who never returned it.
Well, he's probably just taking his time.
He's probably busy sorting a lot of things out.
He is a bit slow.
He's very slow, actually.
Now, you've got this new record coming out. Yeah, yeah.
And if you tune in on Friday, we're going to have a longer chat,
and we're going to have Daryl Hyme asking you some questions.
But you've got this new record out,
which is out on June the 2nd.
Yep.
And you're doing a lot of great songs instrumentally.
What sort of thing can people expect?
Oh, a great album.
And that's what I thought.
That's what I meant to say.
Of course you did.

it might even change the weather.
Thank you, and thank you for joining us,
and changing the way people play the guitar.
