[Em]
[A] [Am] [Bm]
[Em] [A] [Am]
[Bm] [Em] My soul [A] wait thou only, [Am] only [Em] upon God, for [G] from him [A] is my [Am] expectation.
[Em] I try to bring everything that I know of myself as a Jewish person into the music.
I try to sing in Hebrew as much as I can.
And that's something that's an [A] ongoing process, [Am] is learning to do the Hebrew better.
[Bm] And also, you know, sometimes just the form of the music, the beat of the music.
But I really think more importantly is the content.
It's a certain [D] way of looking at things.
[F#] When you're from a Jewish background or a messianic faith, you just view things a little bit differently.
You always have a mind, [Am] how is this [C] going to be heard by Jewish people?
[G] How is this going [Em] to advance the idea that the [C] Jesus of the Gentiles is the [Em] Yeshua of the Jew?
[Am] [Bm] [Em]
[Am] Mainly I'm what you [E] would call a psalmist, I suppose.
I don't think of myself so [A] much as a songwriter, [Am] [F#] although the place in which I live, Nashville,
Tennessee, that's what most people are.
[A] Everywhere you go, you can't go to lunch without hearing about people's songs.
[Em] But I don't see [G] myself that way.
As a matter of fact, I see [Am] myself as really doing what I did when I was a little kid,
[Em] singing in the synagogue, singing the Torah and [G] singing the ancient words of the scriptures.
I see myself as a psalm singer.
[Em] And a psalmist is a bit of an exalted title, and I don't [B] mean it to sound that way.
But that's really [G] what I really love.
The first song [Em] I ever wrote was to Psalm 23.
And put the Bible in [C] front of me and just [F#] put a melody to it.
And sure enough, Debbie Boone recorded it on an album called With My Song.
And right there, it was confirmed to [Em] me that that's where I needed to focus my attention.
He is my defense, I shall not be moved.
He is my defense, [Am] I shall not be [Em] moved.
He is my defense, I shall not [D] be moved.
He is my defense, I shall not be moved.
[Em] Most of what I do is playing [Am] in churches, playing in messianic synagogues,
[G#] playing in outreaches.
I get an opportunity, I'm gonna have an opportunity to go to [G] Australia
with the [F#] Chosen People Ministries and sing [A] to many, many Jewish [Em] people.
And [G] also Christian people.
[B] Adonai, Adonai Adonai
Ma'adir shimcha b'chol ha'aretz
Adonai, Adonai Adonai
Asher t'na'hotha alashamayim
[Bm]
[B] I have pulled [C#] in the music that I do from every influence in my [B] life.
You know, in the songs that I've recorded,
especially the ones that are on the release by Galilee of the [G] Nations.
He [B] is my defense.
[Em] He is my defense is a perfect example.
The last verse of it is
Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad
Every Jew who knows he's a Jew knows that [F#] prayer.
Hear [Bm] O Israel, O Lord [E] our God, the Lord is one.
That's the first [B] thing you [C#] learn as a little Jewish kid is to say Shema Yisrael.
[F#] And all over the world on any given Shabbat,
any given Saturday [Em] or Friday night, they're [Bm] saying that.
How excellent is your name in [Em] all of the earth
[Bm] O Lord, [F#] how excellent is your name
[B] O Lord, our Lord, [Em] how excellent is [Bm] your name in all of [Em] the earth
[Bm] O Lord, [A] how excellent is [B] your name
So I feel very passionate when I'm singing.
[G] And to sing the [B] word of God and to express that in the midst of God's people,
that's [D] something I'm passionate about.
And also I'm passionate about [Em] seeing the Jewish [F#m] people receive their Messiah
[G] and hear, first of all, hear about their Messiah.
And [Bm] hopefully we'll be part of that more than we could ever hope or dream.
I shall not [Em] be moved.
I shall not be moved.
You are my defense.
