[Ebm] Hey everyone, [N] I'm Kevin from Godlike Incorporated and I'm here at the Iridium Jazz Club in Midtown
Manhattan with Scott Henderson.
Scott has been a long time Maxon user and advocate and beta tester [F] for us as well.
He has called the Maxon Sonic Distortion one of the best distortion pedals ever made.
No, the.
[B] The best.
Sorry, I stand corrected.
[G]
And we're lucky enough to have him here in person to [F] take you through the pedal [Gb] and show
you how he uses it to get some of his sound.
So [G] Scott, take it away.
Well this isn't my normal amp configuration.
Usually I'm using a Sur 100 watt head with a 4x12 cabinet and it actually has quite a
bit more gain than this Fender does.
You know, Fender will hate me for this but the distortion channels on these amps aren't
very good so I have to use the clean channel and the clean channel doesn't have quite as
much [F] gain as my 100 watt Sur because it's got a master volume.
[G] So the Maxon SD9 doesn't give me quite as much [Bm] gain as it does with my other setup.
So I turn on this.
Normally I would have the distortion at like the gain, [B] sorry the volume [Fm] all the way up
and the distortion like around 2 o'clock.
With [B] this setup I have to have the distortion up all the [Bm] way because as you can hear, [A]
normally
I don't even like to [Bm] use pedals with clean amps.
I like [N] to have some gain coming from the [C] amp but I don't really have a choice.
[A]
So sometimes [Bm] I'm using not just the Maxon [A] to give me that.
Still a fair amount of gain.
[D]
[C] [A] Normally that's [F] plenty enough.
[Dm]
[C] I'll kick in the RC Booster [G] with it's gain all the way down and volume all the way up
just to add [D] a little more.
Which is about [Cm] equal to the gain that I would [G] get with my Marshall.
[A] [G] [A]
[Am] You
[Em] get that kind of feedback [Dm] on just a very
[G]
[B]
[G] responsive and one thing I really love [Cm]
[C] [Bb] about
this pedal in the world that does not [N] rob you of the bass that comes [G] with the amp.
Plenty [N] of bass and also I have my amp on the floor so that [G] I can come up a [A]
[Bb] little so you
can hear [F] how nicely when you roll down, plenty of
[C]
[Em] [F] [Db]
[E] [Em] [F]
[Abm] [Em]
[Ebm] [Ab]
[Bb]
[Bbm] And then all you gotta do is just turn up a little bit and pick [Bb] harder.
[G] [Cm]
[Bb] [Ab] [C] [Bb]
That's about it.
[Fm] It's really a natural, super natural tone.
I [N] do roll the tone off the treble pickup quite a bit.
I don't go for the rock and roll [A] kind of thing.
It's
[Bb] [B] a thrill up there.
So I roll down the tone to [C] about 3 or 4.
[Eb]
[Ab] [D] [Eb]
[B] [Bb] [Ab]
[Gm] [B]
[Eb] [Gm]
[Eb]
[Ab] [D] [Bb]
[N]
That's a wrap.
So there you have it.
Scott Henderson and the Maxon Sonic Distortion.
The best distortion pedal ever made according to Scott.
