Hi all today's lesson is on
Her Majesty from the have your own
[D] That's sort of sort of hidden song at the tail end of it
That's kind of tacked on to the album.
It's
Paul by himself
doing his typical
finger-picking where he kind of tends to hit a bass note and a high note at the same time and then does a little bit of [G] a
Strum in them in between with [D] either his middle fingers
Or his pointer finger.
I think I'm trying to think of what I tend to do and I do Paul stuff.
I probably use my
My middle finger, but whatever feels comfortable to you is what you can use
But I'll walk through the chords first and then we'll kind of go through them, but it's in standard tuning.
It's in D
so here the
kind of finger shapes
Regular D
Which is still a D
But you're hitting the a string with your pinky at the fourth [B] fret to walk down because the bass note [D] bass line walks down like this
[Dbm] [B] so [Am]
[D] [Ab] [D] you're just gonna do that but
When you do that, so watch the how it goes you go D
That same D with the fourth [G] fret on the a string
Then that's still doing the D fingering with those two fingers, [A] but you take your [G] pointer finger [Am] off
Where it is [G] normally and go up two strings, so it's on the second fret on the a string
So [D]
[G] [D] that's an a [N] suspended basically
But you notice how your ring finger stays on that third fret on the B string through that whole [D] walk down.
So
[G] Don't worry about getting hitting some of those other in-between strings [D] when you're doing your [G] picking.
Don't worry about that
[D] That's a suspended regular a but keeping your finger on that then [E] e7
Regular E [Bm] and hit the B string the third fret
[A]
To [D] start [G] [D] [Bm] [A] [D]
[Ab] over again, you are walking up on the a string open second fret [A] fourth fret and then up [B] to D
[Db] [D] Or you can use whatever fingers
[Bm] [D] Whatever fingers feel good for you on that do that and then the second time through
[G] [D] Pretty nice [Bm] girl, but she changes from [A] day to day
[G] Or that that's just a and then suspended on and off so you I [A] usually do it
With my ring finger if I slide it up one fret to the third on the B [Bm] string back down, but [A] you can do it and
You can do with your pinky or whatever.
You can even do [Bm] like [E] that
[A] Changes from day to day [Bm] B minor
So that's B minor and then just take your middle finger off so that B string is kind of
only barred with the barfing
[Em] [D]
D7 regular D on the second on the first frown to be changed
[G]
That's a [Em] G you could finger like that
For [D] me it's [G] easier to go from that to that [Gb] and then there's [Em] this little
[D] So [Em]
he's [N] kind of that's part of it's a partial chord of a G
But if you were barring a G you'd be like this if you're playing the G just the four
Highest strings up there you play like that
So you're taking it taking your ring your pointer finger off
So you got D string at [Em] the fifth fret and G string at the fourth and you just kind of slide that up
It sounds sort of a tonal when you hear it like this, but that's that's how it works
You can hear it now open [Bb] E string
[Em] [Bm] [Em]
[D] Girl
Back to D [B] nice girl B7
If you're watching this lesson by now, you probably know [Ab] what if you're even attempting the song, you know, what a B7 [G] is [Em] so it's [Bm] Girl someday
[A] E7 gonna make her a [D] mind.
[Bm] Oh, yeah
B7 some day [A] E7 a
[D]
[Bb]
Note
So some some of the finer [G] points here when [D] Paul does finger picking and he does it on this song
When he does this when he kind of does the initial picking you'll see
It's kind of like pinching those and pulling them out
And when you do that, you're gonna [A] get some of those notes in between so that's really
[C] One of the cool things [D] about the way Paul does his finger picking when he does the picking itself
Like that he's getting those other notes that are in it.
That's why he fingers the whole chord [N] and
so but and again in typical Paul [D] fashion he does
so
[G] [D] [G]
[A] [Ab] if
That's kind of the rhythm that he's doing just on the picking hand
[D] so he does the little bit of
In between I use my middle finger you can whatever finger feels good.
You could even use a pinky I guess
But so that's kind of typical the way Paul does his finger pain
That's a D.
Just a regular plain old D
Then a [G] string at the fourth fret
That one has [Ab] the D string and the G string open and if you [Bm] again if you hit them
[D] [G] Don't worry about it if you get the other [Db] notes
The only other thing I guess to remember is if you listen closely to it the first time when he hits [D] that first D
He's hitting that high E string at the second fret
But then as he picks through it he switches down to the B [Gm] string as the [D] high note
[G] [D] [Bm]
[D] [D]
[Bm] [A] [Bm]
[D] [G] [D] [E]
[A] [D] [Bm] [D] [E] So [N]
that's basically the whole thing it's first position chords nothing too extreme and once you get this one
I'd encourage you to work on things like
you know mother nature son and stuff like that because
Again with Paul's finger picking once you have that
Once you can get that down with your picking hand it really opens the door to a lot of his acoustic stuff
Her Majesty from the have your own
