[G] Hey guys, it's Carl Brown from Guitar Lessons 365.com.
Today we're going to learn the solo to Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix.
So I hope that you guys have checked out the chord video and all that stuff so you know
how to play the rest of the song and now it's time for the solo.
We're in standard tuning still and we're going to be living up here in this little
E minor pentatonic most of the time.
So let's start here with this first phrase.
Sounds like this.
Alright, bending at the 15th fret on the B string, whole step, and then 12th fret on
the high E string, then work our way through that pentatonic scale, then 15, 12 on the
B, to the 14th fret on the G, whole [B] step, bending release, to the 12th fret on the [G] G,
hit twice.
[B] Next phrase.
[Am]
Alright, so that starts again with a bend at the 15th fret on the B, start going the
same way down,
[Gb] then when we get to that 14th fret on the G, we're going to do the bend
into the 12th fret on the B string, then [A] back to that 14th fret on the G, [Eb] [B]
then 12, 14, [G] 12
on the G,
[E] to the [Em] 14th fret on the D string.
Then after you pause a little bit there, you're going to do that 12 on the G, to 14 on the
D, [D] back to 12 on the G.
So all together.
[B]
[Em]
Alright, so you kind of slide down after that last note, and then slide back up to the 14th
fret on the 5th fret, on the 5th string, sorry, [E] then 12, [G] 14 on the D, then we have the 12,
the little double stop here, the 12th fret on the G and the B, and when you play that,
you can be slightly, just kind of slightly [Bm] pull it towards the floor.
Alright, [B] so we have this.
[Bm]
[E] Alright, then we have a couple of bends here.
[Eb] So [G] the first one is kind of cut short, and then a full bend again.
And then we have this next phrase after that.
Alright, so we have double stops on the top starting that lick, [E] 12 on the B and the high
E string, [Eb] then [G] 15, 12 on the B, [B]
then another whole step bend there at the 14th fret on
the G, [G] [E] back to 12, 15 on the B.
Then you do the bend of the G again on the 14th fret,
back to the 12 on the B, and then you're going to come over to the D string real quick [D] and
hammer on 12 to 14, [E] then roll your finger over [A] to the 14th on the G, and then [G] 12 on
the G.
[E] So that whole phrase.
[B] [G]
Alright, next phrase.
[Bm]
[Gb] Alright, so we have bend at the 14th fret on the G again, into a roll from the 12th
fret on the B to [Em] the high E, [G]
whole step bend release at the 15th fret on the high E string.
Alright, then [Em] back to the 12 on the high E string, and then you're going to do kind of
a sustained bend there at the 14th fret on the G.
[Bm]
Then we do another roll across the B to the high E at the 12th fret, [Bb] then the 15th fret
on the B string.
[Em] [Am]
[G] So 15 on the B now, quick bend at the 14th on the G, and then hold the 12th fret there
on the G string, [E] stand a little bit, then the 14th fret on the D.
So all [Em] together.
[G]
[B] Alright, [Dbm] next lick kind of ends the solo.
[G] [Dbm] Alright, so he's sliding into the 16th fret on the A string, [B] then 14, [Em] 16 on the D string,
then jump back here to the two 12s on the B and the G.
But then you're going to end it with the 14th fret on the D string there.
[E]
[N] Then he does just a couple of slides up and down the sixth string, not really picking
anything, and he goes into that little bass line.
[G] [C]
[Gb] [Ab] [E] [A]
[Bm] [E] [C] Alright, so that little line there that ends the solo section is third fret on the A [E] string,
open E, one, [G] two, three, on the low E.
Then [B] two, three, four, five on the [C] A, [Db] [D] then the same thing on the low E.
[Ab] [A] Then up here to the fourth [B] fret on the [Db] A string, four, [Eb] five, six, and when you get to the seven,
[E] you just go [D] up here to [C] that kind of [E] E power chord, which is just like kind of the chord
we were doing before, a version of it.
We could have, you just have the seventh fret on the A string, ninth on the D and the G,
and then lift up that ninth fret to just [D] do sevenths on the [E] two little strings.
[D] And then you kind of hear it.
[E]
This might just be the bass guitar, it's just that same lick we did in the first [C] video.
[E] [G]
[Ab] [E] [D] [E]
Alright, so that's about it.
Obviously it's a classic Kendrick solo and everybody's got to know it.
So, I hope you guys enjoyed it.
I'll see you again soon for guitarlessons365.com.
Bye-bye.
