[Bb] Aloha and welcome to another episode of High Sessions.
John Yamasato here.
And on today's episode we [A] feature Weldon Keikaoha.
This is [G] one of those episodes that [D] we were really hoping for from [C] the beginning and Weldon
[D] and Alika and Jack really just knocked it out of the park.
[G] It's like catching lightning in a bottle.
This episode is [Bm] so good, so excited to show [A] everybody.
[D] Thank you all for watching [G] and liking and commenting and all that stuff.
But please [C] enjoy Weldon [D] Keikaoha on this episode of [D] High Sessions.
[G]
[D]
[E] Alika, how's it going man?
Let's see here.
[A] What kind of [C] vase is this?
This is a Greed Love 5.
Oh, Greed Love.
Greed Love Acoustic.
Yes.
Must have been crazy.
Actually, I [Abm] had it when it first came out.
Oh, okay.
It was nice.
[G] It's about 6 years old now.
[Gb] Oh, okay.
And it's the same age as the strings.
6 years old.
[Gm] Yeah, these strings tend [G] to not change either.
Yeah, especially for our type of music, Hawaiian.
[D] The deader the [Gbm] better.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[G] Alright, cool man.
I [F] can't wait to hear that thing.
[G] [D]
[G] [Dm] [C]
Hello Nick Kawakami.
Hello, Cameron.
[F] How are you?
Fine, [D] thank you.
Now, what do you have there?
This is my [A]
[C] Google based Apple iPad.
How do you [F] like the iPad mini?
I do, I [G] love it.
[C] It's a great companion on those lonely cold nights.
[Dm] Thank [Em] you for that wonderful review.
It's awkward.
[C] Alrighty, we're here with Walden Keikau Ohap.
[F] And we're going to do a 3 minute [Am] interview in a second.
[G] Oh, Nick has my phone.
And [C] Walden, it's been very interesting because [F] he's been around as long as I [C] have.
And watched him go from Hawaiian [G] Airlines employee to [C] Hawaiian music titan.
Basically [G] dominating the Hawaiian music [C] charts.
And everything has to do with Hawaiian music.
So, Walden, [G] thanks for coming.
We're going to start in 3 minutes [C] now.
Let's see, so you just got nominated for [Am] something very prestigious.
[G] Yeah.
What is that?
It's called a Grammy.
[C]
[Fm] Well, congratulations.
We're very proud of [Am] you, man.
Thank you very much.
I'm totally [G] excited about the whole thing.
I can't [C] wait.
We found out [Ab] as we were on tour, traveling.
[C] Oh, right on.
We're all familiar [G] with Kennedy County, LA.
She's the one who wants to tell you.
Oh, really?
[Ab] Congratulations.
And I said, hey, well, thank [C] you.
What's it for?
And I thought she was going to tell me [G] my wedding permit or something.
[C] Yeah, yeah.
But no, it was just the nominations.
Carol Adalangi [C] had posted on Facebook.
Oh, okay.
Finding out about me.
It was really sweet.
It was really nice when we found out.
So, when [Bb] did that happen?
Because we're shooting, this is January, but when?
Late, mid-December.
Oh, okay, okay.
Awesome.
So, we were all on the [D] bus touring, the Christmas tour.
Oh, that's when you found out.
Yeah.
So, I got to hang out with everyone, sharing the moment with everyone.
[B] Sometimes you find out by [Eb] yourself.
It's like, I'm kidding.
Yippee!
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But it's kind of special that I got to share that moment with everyone.
Cool, man.
And then you have a new album that you're working [B] on?
New album released last November.
Oh, okay, okay.
9 [Ab]-11 released, yeah. Oh, really?
Yeah.
Entitled, TV Aloha, and we're enjoying [G] the run so far.
It's still pretty new, [D] so we're still going from there.
Hopefully, it'll carry on for quite some time.
It's got some long history, I hope.
Well, Steve, talking about touring.
Yeah.
Share with us [Db] some of your tour experiences, especially in Japan.
Japan, you know, is an ongoing and continuous thing for us.
We're fortunate that people have enjoyed our music and enjoyed the Hawaiian music in general.
So a lot of us here benefit from being able to travel there.
[D] So we go there at least once a month.
Oh.
Yeah, we get to eat some good food.
Now, wait a minute.
Hold on a second.
Once a month.
[Eb] Now, when I go on an eight-hour trip [N] and I land in Narita,
and then I have to drive three hours in traffic to Tokyo,
I'm not a happy camper, and I cannot imagine doing that every month.
But you don't mind?
Well, there's Haneda now.
Oh.
[Gb] Ha ha ha.
Ha ha.
But every once in a [Dbm] while, we still have to fly to Narita.
Yeah.
I don't [N] mind.
I really don't mind.
I think we've just gotten used to it.
That's true, yeah.
We travel with a great bunch of guys.
Jack, Ofoia, Brian Tolentino, Alikaboi Kalawi.
I travel with her.
Yeah.
She's a very different experience.
Ha ha ha.
All right, man.
Okay, cool.
And then here in Hawaii, people can come and see you.
Here in Hawaii, Wednesday at Kanikapila Grill.
Oh, never mind.
You can't say that.
Okay.
But Kanikapila Grill, when do you play?
Tuesdays, 6 to 9.
Okay, thanks, man.
You're welcome.
