Beautiful [F#] Kauai
[G] There's an island [C] across the [G] sea
Good morning everybody and welcome to another episode of High Sessions.
Today's artist, [D] Faith Ako.
Faith is a San [Am] Francisco based [C] Hawaiian artist and we're very happy to [G] have her here.
She traveled [Bm] across the pond to say [C] hello and share some of her music with us.
[A] So enjoy, [C] have a good day.
Thank you for watching.
It's morning [G] to me
[D] Beautiful Kauai
Beautiful Kauai
[G]
[D] Okay.
So [A] what kind of ukulele do you have there?
I have an 8 [D] string, less reed [A] verse ukulele.
Less reed?
I've never heard of that.
Less reed verse.
[D] It's a local guy from Kailua.
[G] Oh really?
Kailua?
He passed away a few years ago. Oh wow.
But he made about [B] 800 ukuleles and a lot of the [D] actors and actresses in Hollywood bought a [F#] bunch from him.
Really?
Oh interesting.
I love it [B] because I've got all these different types of wood.
[G] Yeah.
The abalone shell and [A] Hawaiian flag.
Yeah, that's what I [G] saw.
I saw that.
I'm upside down.
Wow, very cool.
[Am] Very cool.
Nice [D] instrument.
Thank you.

[Am] Hanalei [D] by Moola
I'm here [Fm] with Faith Ako for our [G] 3 minute interview and we're going to start now.
[C] Faith, where are you currently living?
I live in Santa Rosa, [A] California and I'm about 45 minutes north of the Bowling Gate Bridge.
Okay, oh that's a nice area.
In the heart of the wine country, yeah.
So are you originally from here though I'm assuming?
I am.
I was born and raised on the [F] North Shore, Laiu.
Oh really?
[G] Yes.
Oh that's nice.
Yes.
[C] And so it must be nice to be visiting a home and [G] all that kind of stuff.
It is always nice [F] to come here.
How often do you [C] come out this way?
[A] I try to get home at [E] least once or twice a year.
Okay.
[D] I have to.
And what are you doing in [Am] California right now?
I've been working [D] for the public [G] school education, special ed actually, for the last 20 something years.
[C] So I work at high school.
[Gm] Oh really?
[C] And so what made you decide, well now I'm going to take my career to another [D] venue and start doing Hawaiian music?
Well, [F#] when my daughter was four years old and [C] her name is Felina, [G] she wanted to learn hula in Santa [F] Rosa.
So I said, okay [G] I'll drop you off, pick you up.
She [E] said, no mom, the Koma wants you to come in and play [C] ukulele.
Oh.
[G] So [Dm] I've been doing it ever since.
She's 24 [Gm] now.
Oh [G#] really?
Yes.
So 20 [A#] years.
So I've been trying to juggle, trying to juggle, you know, [F] momhood and grandmothood and [C] work.
But my passion is the [Gm] music.
Great.
Yeah, and how [G] long have you been touring up on the mainland [F] or doing a lot of traveling?
I [A] am all over the [D] place in the Bay Area.
[F] I've come here to perform here at Peculi Live [G] a few times.
[F] Just, you know, where the music takes you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And we have a [Dm] lot of fans on the west coast that love Hawaiian music.
Yeah, I know.
[C#] We go there [C] quite a bit.
It's nice to see [F] people, because down here you don't really get a lot of people coming out for stuff, you know?
No, we have a big [A#] audience.
It's almost like, [A#m] I know that the guys in [C] Hollywood, they say that if you [Dm] perform in L.A.,. people don't come out, but you go elsewhere, people come out. It's kind of weird. [F#] It is, it [B] is. So it's strange. We have a very supportive [G] community in the Bay Area. Yeah. Very supportive, [C] yep. But it's kind of all over [E] California, right? It [C] is. L.A. is, to me, [F] L.A. is a little bit different because it's so widespread. Sure. [D] Bigger area to cover. It just seems like the Bay Area is more [F] organized. Much more close-knit, yes. I [G] agree. So what are your plans for the rest of the year? We'll probably be [C] seeing this sometime kind of [F] September, October-ish kind of thing. [A] Well, I've got a lot going on. You can always check my website [G] at www .fakeako [F#].com. [C] I'll be traveling to Vegas in October. [G] We're doing a couple of Aloha [C] Festivals in the Bay Area [E] in August. [F] [C] And just [E] small kind of fun. [F#] Well, we really appreciate you being [C] here and hopefully we'll see you again soon. Thank you so much, John. [F] Awesome people. Thank you. I appreciate it. Okay, see you later. [A] [N]
