One of you requested this week's hymn.
It's a song called,
How Can I Keep From Singing?
And I did not know it at all,
but I'm so grateful for the request.
It was written in 1860 by a fellow named Robert Lowry.
We've done a bunch of his songs, but I was not familiar with this one.
A gentleman by the name of Arasanky rewrote the music years later.
And I have to tell you, I don't think Robert had it wrong.
We're going to do his version.
I've changed it a little bit,
but this is [C] pretty true to the original.

[F] My life flows [Bb] on, an endless song, [Fm] above earth's lamentations.
I [F] hear the sweet, [Bb] though far off, hymn [Fm] that hails a new creation.
[F] Through all the tumult and the strife, I hear the [Bb] [F] music ringing.
It finds an [Bb] echo in my soul.
[F] How can I keep from singing?
What [Bb]

[F] though my joy [Bb] and comforts die, [F] the Lord my Savior liveth.
What though the [Bb] darkness gather round, [F] songs in the night he giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm, while to that refuge clinging.
Since Christ is [Bb] Lord of heaven and earth, [F] how can I keep from singing?
I
[Bb] [F] [C]
[F] lift mine eyes, [Bb] the cloud grows thin.
[Fm] I see the blue above [C] it.
[F] And day by day [Bb] this pathway smooths, [F] since first I learned to love it.
The peace of Christ [C] makes [F] fresh my heart, a fountain ever springing.
All things are mine, [Bb] since I am his.
