When it comes to the amount of gain, I have my periods where I have a lot of gain, too
much gain, then I start dropping at some point, I have [N] too little gain, now I have been climbing
up adding more gain, but basically I think I have enlightened about this whole thing,
I think I have found out that when you really need to have the gain, then you just have
that gain, and when you want to have distinctive notes or you want to have those gaps between
the notes, then you have to have a little less gain.
How many levels of gain are there?
[A#] We went through them before.
[A] First of all, of course, [D]
[A] [D]
[F#m] the volume and of [G#] course the right pickup [G] selection is one thing,
[A] it starts from there, but basically I have a clean, which is, this is my clean, so it's
[G] now like overdrive clean, but it's [E] clean when you play soft.
[A] [D]
[E] [A]
But then, this is my clean channel [E] from the User Gettner Deluxe 40 amp, and if I press
a button here from this clean, I get overdrive pedal, and I get this type of sound.
[A]
[D] This is mainly because sometimes when I play, [F] I have two cleans, the other one is with reverb,
[G] [D]
[A] so I can anytime have that [D]
[G] [D] overdrive there, but [C#] anyway, so I have clean with overdrive
pedal, but then I enter the crunch channel [A] from the amplifier, and this is the pure setting
from [C#] the amplifier basically, I have [Am] nothing together with that.
But if I press this again, [B] I get, I think it was compressor that I have,
[D] [C] it's [B] a little
bit more gain and more attack.
Then here I have again still the same channel from the crunch, but this time it's with,
I think it's different at least, but it's with overdrive this time.
So I get [C] a
[A] little bit fatter, here I get a little more gain and more [N] fat, it's good,
you can make these smooth transitions, nobody realizes when you play rhythm guitar and then
you move to lead line, single notes, it's great for that, and again if I push this again,
I get compressor on, which makes it even more, then you can really get smooth legato lines.
It's a pretty sophisticated setup ultimately, but you have all these shades of gray.
And then you have all the pickup selections, I have single coils, but if you play a rock
gig, you don't need that, you just use the clean and the overdrive and maybe a lead volume
version of that, but then when you record and play around, you might think, well [G] maybe
this, or is it this, or play [D] a rock, you can find the right tone.
[G] And you have five selections for five-way switch?
Five-way here and then this turns the whole guitar into single coil guitar.
And this here, it goes to, well out of phase kind of, [A]
[Bm] [E] which can be kind of nasty sound
at times, but for some weird things.
For mix, it can pop right out.
How long did it take you to dial in all of these?
I mean, I think this stuff all sounds beautiful, and I think you have become one with the pedalboard
that you can switch between these, and I almost can't even tell even though I'm watching you
do it, but you do it right in the middle of the line.
How long did it take you to get this [N] setup dialed in this way?
Oh, about 40 years.
40?
Don't say that!
