[C]
[F] [Em]
[G] This is Steve Lacey.
[C]
[F] You might not know him [G] yet, but you probably know his music.
[Bb] He's part of the band The [Abm] Internet, he's a producer with [Ebm] people like J.
Cole and Kendrick
Lamar, and he just put out his first solo [Abm] music recently.
[Gb]
[B] [Abm] I'm about to get crazy.
[Gb] [Ebm] Oh, and he's [Bb] 18.
You [F] might notice there's all this studio [Bb] equipment behind him.
[A] Steve doesn't [Bb] use any of it, well, other than the [Abm] swords.
I'm going [Gb] to show you how I make music on my [Eb] phone.
I'll show [E] you a little bit of the [Bbm] process.
Lacey records all of his [B] music on his phone.
He's used lots of [Bb] apps before, [Abm] but GarageBand is his [Gb] favorite.
I started off with a simple drum loop.
[Bm]
After the drums.
Then he plugs his guitar [Gm] into his iPhone using [Bm] an iRig cable.
[G]
[Gm]
[Em] [Gm]
[Em]
[G]
[Em] Then I'll [G] play the melody.
[C] Then he adds his [F] vocals.
[Em] [G]
[C] [B]
[Em] Lacey would [G] rather sing [C] straight into the iPhone's mic, holding [F] a pop filter and getting
[Em] right up close.
[G]
[C] [F]
[Em] [G] As he works, he just [C] stacks the tracks on top [F] of each other, one by one, with [Em] GarageBand.
[G]
[C] I [F]
like [Em] to make [G] wherever I am.
[C] When I'm at home, [F] and my phone [G] was my first before, I started going to that studio.
I was making beats on my [Bm] phone, just [Em] making beats on the apps and [F] the drum kits and stuff.
[C] But I had got [G] this piece called the [Em] iRig.
I saw [G] you can plug it into your [C] iPhone, and I was like, oh, [F] they got amps on here.
[E] See what cool guitar [G] sounds I can get.
[C] Oh, this seems [F] cool, like, dope.
[Em] Lacey's [G] kind of a big deal now.
He could use other equipment.
[Am] But he likes making music on [F] his iPhone.
There's even [C] something about the sound [F] that just feels very [Em] Steve.
[G] He calls his style [C] plaid.
You know, like [F] the shirt.
[Em] Plaid is my genre.
I [G] found [C] that out, I [G] was thrift shopping, [Em] and [G] I was in the Pendleton section.
As I [Am] realized, [C] scruffling through the shirts, [B] I'm like, [Em] this kind of [G] looks like how my music [C] sounds.
If you [B] listen to [E] a couple songs, it might [G] sound like there's a lot [C] going on, [F] but it doesn't [Em] clash at all.
[G] In plaid, [C] [F]
[Em] it's a lot going on.
[G] All goes together to [C] be one [B]
[Em] pattern.
[G]
And that's what I
[D] call my [B] music.
[Ebm] [Bbm] [Db] [B]
[Db] [Ebm]
[Abm]
[Gb]
