[G] Hi and welcome to my tutorial.
In this video I'm going to show you
music's most popular chord transition.
The chord transition that will include
G, C, D, [D] and E minor.
And I'm going to show you how to play that transition
without moving your hand from one position.
We're going to stay right here in this position
and play all those chords.
The guitar is tuned standard E, A, D, G, B, E.
The chords we're going to learn are the 1, 4, [D] 5, and 6 [G] minor chords
of the key of G major.
Those four chords are commonly used in all types of popular music.
The first chord is G major.
And we're going to play that by placing two fingers
on the B and high E string at the third fret.
And then we're going to bring up the middle finger
to the low E string third fret
and the first finger to the A string second fret
and strum all the strings.
That's our one chord, G major.
We're going to turn that into a C chord
by simply taking these two fingers
and moving them down to here.
So now we've got two fingers still
on the B and high E string third fret
but these fingers are going to the A string third fret
and the D string second fret.
And we have a C add 9 chord.
[C]
Notice we just did this.
So we're still in our same position.
We simply move two fingers down to the next two strings.
And we're going to strum all the strings
because all the notes work in [G] that chord.
Next we'll go to the 5 chord [D] which is a D major chord.
With this chord we're going to omit the low E string
and strum from the A string.
We've got our first finger on the G string second fret.
Our middle finger on the high E string second fret
and the ring finger on the third fret B string.
That's our D major or 5 chord.
We're going to make an E minor 7 chord
which is our 6 minor chord by doing [G] this.
Now the easy way to get to that chord
is to simply play our G
and pick up the middle finger.
Like that.
We wind up with our first finger on the second fret on the A string
and two fingers on the B string and high E string at the third fret.
We get our G back by doing this.
Many songs will start with the E minor
and go to the G.
Some [Am] songs will start [G] with the G
and go to the E minor.
Like that.
We get there simply by moving that middle finger in and out.
Now if you want to use these chords to play in other keys
you simply add a capo.
If we want to raise the key [F] by one half step
we place the capo at fret 1
[Ab] and now we've got [Bb] the [Eb] same set of chords
in a half [Ab] step higher key.
If we want to raise it a whole step
go to the second fret.
[A]
We are now in the key of A
and we have the same chord transition.
[Gbm] [E] [Gbm]
A very handy set of chords.
Well alright.
That is by far the most commonly used set of chords in popular music today.
Thanks for stopping by
and have a great day.
