Start Jamming...
[F] [Eb] Hey everybody, welcome back to HD [Cm] Piano.
[F] [Eb] I'm Phil, and I'm excited because today I'm gonna be showing
[F] you how to play [Eb] All of Me by John Legend.
[Cm] And in this video, [F] we're looking at the intro and the
verse, which sounds a little something like this.
[Db]
[Ab] [Eb]
[F] [Db]
[Ab] [Eb]
And [F] that repeats for a while.
So let's start with
the right hand.
We're gonna play our thumb on F above middle C, and our pinky is gonna be on the
C above that.
So our right hand's playing an open fifth in F position, and that's our first chord.
Our second chord, we're gonna move our pinky up to [Db] D flat and keep our thumb the same.
So we're
gonna have F and D flat.
Our third chord, [Eb] we're gonna put our thumb on E flat, so we're gonna
need to slide our hand to the back.
Thumb [Ab] on E flat, pinky on C.
This is our third chord.
[Eb] And
our fourth and final chord is a three note chord, an E flat major triad.
E flat, G, B flat.
And those
are our four chords that repeat.
Let's go over those again one more time.
First [F] chord, F and C.
[Db] Second chord, F and D flat.
Third [Cm] chord, E flat and C.
Fourth chord, [Eb] E flat major triad.
[Fm] One, two,
three, [Db] four.
One, two, three, [Cm] four.
One, two, three, [Eb] four.
One, two, three, four.
Alright, let's add the left hand into
the mix.
We're gonna be playing bass notes for each one of these right hand chords.
The first
bass [F] note is an F, then we drop [Db] to a D flat, [Ab] then we go up to A flat, and drop [Eb] to an E flat.
Those
are our four bass notes, and they match up with the right hand.
So F in the left hand for [F] our
first right hand chord.
When [Db] right hand goes to our second chord, left hand goes to a D flat.
For
our third [Ab] chord, left hand goes up to A flat.
And for our final [Eb] E flat major triad, left hand goes
to E flat.
[F] One, two, three.
[Db]
[Ab]
[Eb] Two, three.
One more [F] time.
Two, three, [Db] four.
[Ab]
[Eb] Four, three, four.
Excellent work.
Now let's add [Fm]
a
chord.
We're actually gonna do a couple of times on each chord before we change.
So let's first subdivide, which means
instead of counting one, two, three, four, we're actually gonna count one and two and three and four and.
We're gonna
count the ands in between the strong beats of one, two, three, and four.
The reason we're gonna do that is
because we're gonna play a chord in between two strong beats.
We're gonna play a chord on the and,
and that goes like this.
One and two and three and four.
That's the same rhythm we're gonna use for
all the right hand chords.
One and two and.
We play our second time on the and of two.
One and
two and three and four.
And then we play our final one on beat four.
So there are three different times
we play each chord.
We play it on beat one, we play it on the and of two, and we play it on beat four.
Let's
try that with each chord.
One and two and three and four [Db] and one and two and three and four [Ab] and one and two and
three and four [Eb] and one and two and three and four and.
Excellent.
The left hand, though, is just gonna keep
playing whole notes so you don't have to worry about the rhythm in the left.
Why don't we try putting the
hands together at the tempo we were just playing and then we'll speed it up.
Here we go.
[F] One and
two and three and four [Db] and one and three and four.
[Ab] One and two and three and four [Eb] and one and two and
three and four.
Great job.
Alright, [F] now practice along with that tempo as long as you need.
Rewind
if you need.
When you're ready, though, meet me back here and we'll do it up to tempo.
Here we go.
One, two, three, four.
[Db] [Ab] Let's try it four times in a [Eb] row.
[F]
[Db] [Ab]
[Eb] Two [F] more.
[Db] [Ab]
[Eb] [F]
[Db] [Ab]
[Eb] [Ab] That, my friends, is the intro and
the verse for All of Me by John Legend.
This has been a huge request.
[Eb] A lot of people requesting
this on the site, so we're bringing it to you.
I'm Phil and you're watching HD Piano.
I'll see
you soon for the next sections.
