Hi everybody, welcome back.
Shane here from Guitar at Work.
Thank you for coming back
and thank you for subscribing.
It's been a lot of fun watching those numbers go up.
I
haven't done this before so it's kind of neat to check and see how many people are watching.
So thank you.
There will be an opportunity to subscribe later on in the video for sure.
I think it's the last 15 seconds or so.
You can do it anytime.
You can also download the
sheets from shanesimpson.com free, no problem there, no hassle.
This is the best of my love,
The Eagles.
What a great song.
Anything by The Eagles is a great song of course.
No capo
on this guy.
The main riff, I'm going to start it on the C chord and I'm assuming you're
okay on a C chord.
There's [B] a picture up in there if you need them.
C and the neat thing
about this, I'm going to start with my first finger off of there.
So first finger off the
C.
Technically that's C major 7th.
Don't worry about it, it's more of a riff.
So we're going
to start out, you'll see a strumming pattern in the bottom right of that first page.
So
we're starting C without the first finger.
Going to do a [C] downstroke and then on this
upstroke, [Em] going to add that first finger back on his rightful spot on the [C] C.
So again
that is easy as pie.
So again, off with that first finger and back on.
So that's the first
two strums [Em] in the song or on the C chord as well.
So we're going down, [C] up, now we do another
down with them on.
And now it's going to continue up, down, up.
So the whole pattern is going
to go down, up, down, up, up, down, up.
Let's do that a couple of times for you.
So off
with that first finger on a C.
Down, up, down, up, up, down, up.
There we go, here it is
again.
Three, four, down, up, down, up, up, down, up.
Again, there we go.
Now I'll [B] call
it a rhyming shape on the F, F major 7.
Any F you see in this song here, I haven't written
out F major 7 every time.
So assume it's an F major 7.
All that is, some people call
it the cheating F.
You don't have to bar.
It's kind of nice.
You don't have to bar that
guy.
You just stand him up.
It almost looks like a C, but these two fingers are one string
thinner of course right there.
F major 7, there he is.
There's a picture of him there
if you need it.
And it starts out the same way with that first finger off of there.
And
we do the downstroke.
And then we're going to go put that first finger [Am] back on and then
continue with the strumming pattern as written.
So here it is from the first finger off going
down, up, down, up, up, down, up.
Let's do that again.
Here it comes.
Three, four, off
we go.
Down, up, down, up, up, down, up, [B] [Am] down, up, down, up, up, down, up.
Great.
So [C] let
me go from C.
There'll be two patterns on the C and then two patterns on the F, which
again is F major 7 in this case.
So here it is from C, very slowly, three, four, and down,
up, down, up.
Again, down, up, down, up, up.
F major 7, [F] off comes the first [Am] finger, up,
up, down, [B] up, [F] down, up, down, up.
And back to C major 7 here.
[C] Down, up, down, up, up,
down.
Again, down, up, down, up.
F major 7, [B] [F] down, up, down, up, up, down, up, down, up,
[Am] down, up.
There we go.
Good.
So anytime you see a C and an F paired in this song, assume
it is that riff, okay?
That's the sort of the ongoing theme [C] of the song.
There are [Em] a
few more chords coming at you here.
They're going to do that for a little while in the
first verse, then you're going to find an E minor.
I'm going to play the same strumming
pattern.
I'm not noodling on the E minor.
There's no fingers coming off and on.
I'm
just going to go down, up, down, up, up, down, up.
Then there's a D minor coming.
There's
a picture of that D minor there.
[Dm] Three, four, down, [D] up, down, up, up, down, up.
And back
to E minor here.
[Em] Down, up, down, up, up, down, up.
Great.
Now here's a really cool chord,
G11.
Check them out right there.
G11.
Some will object to the name, but it's become a
convention to call that G11 in the jazz world.
[F] It's okay.
That guy right there.
It's really
a fancy G7.
It's from the same sort of family.
There we go.
There he is there.
Ring finger
here, third fret.
And pinky's going third fret of the D string.
Middle finger, second
fret.
And first finger is on the first fret of that B string.
Now I'm trying.
You'll see
an X over top of the A string, which usually means you're trying to not play that string.
You still strum.
My ring finger is [A] just leaning over a little bit to choke that guy out.
It
shouldn't be too hard to do.
My guess is it's probably happening without even trying.
So
don't worry about it.
You still [Dm] strum it.
You try to choke him out.
And again, he's
probably already doing that.
Also the high E [Am] string, we're trying to mute that guy.
And
how do you do that?
Your first finger just kind of leans over a [F] little bit like that.
So you get that nice clean chord in there.
So you got two mutes going on.
You may have
to twist your hand or twist your wrist to achieve that.
And getting it consistently
can be tricky too.
[Am] There we go.
That's a really rich sounding [F] G7 chord.
It's actually G11
in this case.
Great.
And they stop there.
So let me [B] take it from the E minor that happens
just previous to [Em] that standard pattern here.
Down, up, down, up.
Here's your G11 [G] in [F] one,
two, three.
And we're [C] back to C, D minor.
[D]
Back to C [C]
and a G.
[G]
There we go.
There's your
first verse.
And then [B] it's much the same happening in the second verse as well.
You are going
to find an F minor toward the bottom of page one.
I guess I'll call this the bridge.
F
minor [Fm] can be a
I'll do it first full bar chord version and give you a bit of a cheating
version if you're not up to that bar chord right away.
It is probably the toughest place
to play a bar chord because of the tension between the nut and that first fret.
So it
[C] can be nasty.
Here I am.
Barred right across the first fret like that.
All six strings.
And ring finger is going to go on the third fret of the A string.
And pinky is going on
the third fret of that D string.
[F] Let's get you a good close up of that guy.
There we
go.
There you go.
I put my middle finger over top.
If you've got enough length in that finger,
put your middle on top of your first finger just to give you a little more squish power.
That guy in there like that.
Don't be disappointed if you're getting some dead spots in there.
That's pretty standard.
Again, probably the toughest place to play a bar chord there.
A miniature version of that, just if you're not quite up to that guy, would just be to
bar the top three strings with that first finger.
Top three strings and then put your
third finger here on the third fret of the D string.
And then two X's in the chords.
We'd only strum the top four [Fm] strings right here.
There we go.
So you lose a little of
the bottom of course.
That's a nice thick sound with the full bar chord with this guy
here.
He'll do [F] it a pinch until you're feeling up to that guy for sure.
That's the one.
And
when we get to that chord, they're just strumming straight, whichever F minor you're going to
choose for now.
Straight strumming pattern there, down, up, down, up.
Every time you
see a chord written, that's a full pattern.
And then [C] back to C.
I'll put that noodle in
there.
Every time I see a C.
Going back to F minor [F] here.
Two, three, four.
And D minor.
They [Em] stop here, [D] page two.
It's D minor chord.
We all know and love this guy here.
And then
to a G.
[G] I'll go to the big kid's G.
Two, three, four.
You're back [C] to the main riff.
There
we go.
F major [F] seven.
[Am] Cool stuff.
Let's just [Em] practice that main riff together a few times
slowly.
I'll count you in on the repeat.
So we'll go C, twice on C, twice on the F,
or F major seventh in this case.
And I'll give you a quick counting just so you can
gather your thoughts for the next round.
So here it comes.
Here's a C coming.
First finger
off to start with.
Three, four.
[C] Down, up, down, up.
Again.
Down, up, down, up.
F [B] major
seven.
[Am] Down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
And back to C.
Here's a count.
[C] Three, four.
Down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
F major seven here.
[B] [Am] Down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
Great.
And just a couple without
the count now.
Here it comes.
Jump in if you can.
If you get lost, wait on that C.
We're
always going back there.
Here comes C major seven.
Three, or first finger [Bb] off of there.
[C] Three, four.
Going down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
F major seven.
[F] Down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
C.
[Em] [C] Down, up, down, up.
Up, down,
up, down, up, down, up.
F major seven.
[F]
Down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, [Am] down,
Up, down, up, down, great.
So that's your main riff and a lot of the song right there.
Don't let bar chords discourage you.
We're gonna do a whole series on those.
You conquer those [Gm] once and for [Fm] all.
Just go with your cheatin' F minor
if you have to at this point.
So thank you again for coming back.
That's The Best of My Love by The Eagles
and I hope you found that to be something
that you could play through.
[B] You're not supposed to be able to get it perfectly
in a five minute video, so stop and rewind
as many times as you need to.
And you probably see a coffee cup jump over my head here
in a second and that gives you an opportunity to subscribe.
Just click on that and that'll tell you
when other videos are coming around or have come out.
So thanks for coming back.
Shane here from Guitar at Work and enjoy.
We'll see you again soon for another one.
Cheers, bye bye [Em] now.
