How to Play "Californication" by Red Hot Chili Peppers on Guitar chords
Start Jamming...
Hey guys, it's Thomas from Mahalo and we're doing Californication today.
Super easy, it's A minor and F.
Basically back to [G] back [Am] and we have a really cool riff
we're going to start out with and it goes something like this.
[Em] [F] [Am]
[B] And what we're doing [C] is we're starting here on the open A string, the fifth string.
[E] Then we're going to hit the second fret of the D string and then we're going to skip
the G [Eb] string all together and go to the B string.
[Bb] And we're going to play two notes on there.
We're going to [B] play open and then we're going [Cm] to put our first fret.
[D] So open A, [A]
then the D string on the second fret, and then open B, [Cm] and then put our finger
on the first fret.
[Am] Like that.
And this whole riff does that [N] where it'll hit this string, then the next one, and then
it'll skip and then play two notes on that string.
So then we go to the F bar chord and it's going to be first [F] fret on the low E, then
we're going to [C] do a third fret on the A [Bb] string, then we're going to skip the D and then play
two notes [Gm] on the G string [F] this time.
[D] Open G [F] and then second fret.
So let's put that together.
[Am] [F]
So that's the [A] beginning.
And the bass [Bb] has a [F] [B] littleit's
a hammer-on on [E] the D string on the second fret,
[D] [C] and then
you hit the third fret of the A string.
So [E] that's in between the chords.
[Am] Right here.
[G] [F] If you want to add that bass line in there.
[Cm] Makes it a little more complex.
[E] But that's basically the whole verse in A minor.
[Am] [F]
[E] [Am]
[F] And then we move to [B] the last part of the verse.
We're going C, [C] doing kind of a bar chord in C.
[G] G, [F]
F, [Dm] D minor.
[Gb] [C] And we're going to do kind of the same thing, we're hitting the strings back to back, skip
a string, we're going to do this [Bb] arpeggio [C] motion.
So third fret, fifth fret, then we're going up to the B string, then back to the D string.
And we're going to do that with all the chords.
Then the G, which iswe'rew just doing a basic bar chord here. Three, five, five, four, three, three. [Bb] And then slide that [F] down to the F. [Dm] And then to the D minor. We're going to do D minor, this. Not a bar chord, just the open D minor. So it's open D, second fret, third fret, first fret. So all that goes [C] together [G] [F]
[Dm] is So [E] that's basically [Am] the verse. [Am]
[C] [Am] And [C] then we go C, [G] G, [F] F, [D] D [Dm] minor. In [D] D minor I'm just hitting open D, and then I'm just hitting a D an octave higher, and then the chord. It kind of sets, gives me time to set up my fingers, so I'm [Dm] likesomethingsom like that. [D] So that's the verse, [A] and then we move [Cm] on to the pre-chorus, which is A minor, [Am] F. Awesome. The same chords we know. So here we go. So it's just the [Bb] strumming pattern we're going to work on, and most of the strumming pattern [Am] is going to be this. [G] Just one and aand we're just going to repeat [Gb] that, except for the third beat, [Am] we're going to flip it around and go one, E, and. So one, and a, two, and a, one, E, and. [F] [Am] A minor, [F] and we're going to this F major seven chord. [Am] A minor is open, two, two, one, open. And then we're [F] going to three, three, two, [Am] one, open. One, and a, one, and a, [F]
[Am] one. And that is the pre-chorus. Over and over. And then the [C] chorus. Dream of California [Dm] vacation. [Am] [C] Dream of California [Dm] vacation. [D] [C] And that is C to [G] G, [Dm] D minor, [Am] and A minor. [C] So C we're just doing third fret, second fret, open, first fret, basic C [G] form. Then G, third fret, second fret, open, open, third fret, third fret. [Dm] D minor, which is open D, second fret, third fret, first [Am] fret, and back to A minor. Open, second fret, second fret, first fret, open. So here [Gb] we go, all together. Two. [Em] [C] [G] Dream of California [A] vacation. [C] Dream [G] of California [Dm] vacation. [G] So those are the three basic parts of [Bb] this song. [Gb] And if you check out another video, I can teach you how to play the solo, which is awesome. Super easy, and it was one of the first guitar solos [A] I learned, so you guys gotta check [N] it out. And that's basically it. So let me know if you guys have any questions, and remember to like, subscribe, and comment. [Em] So I'll see you guys later. [Am] [Gb]
