How to play "Dancing In The Dark" by Marie Wilson chords
Start Jamming...
G'day, this is Marie Wilson and I'm here with my friend Caleb and
What I'm going to teach Caleb how I play the Bruce Springsteen song dancing in the dark
Alright, so I have the capo on the third fret
It's actually makes the way we played here makes that song in its original key
So you can actually end up playing this along with the CD if you want to although I do tend to play a fairly
More laid-back sort of version of it
Obviously he's got like huge horn sections and things like that
So whenever I do a version of a song, I just try to do something that I can best
Portray that song.
I don't like to muck around with it too much and change it all and be too too clever with it
I just like to do something that's
You know that I feel I'm doing justice to and I'm playing it solo so basically
[Bb] It's in the key of G with with the capo on so it's in the key of G
and
It's a nice way
I like doing this intro because I know when I start playing if I don't actually [N] introduce it
People are sitting there because they're saying it sounds familiar
But I'm not quite sure what it is
And then when I start singing then everyone sort of gets it so it's a nice way to sort of start the song
All right.
So the intro [Bb] is just on the G
Now [D]
that's the that's a G string and I've just got the I'm sort of playing that little melody [G] that does play it in the intro
[Bb] So it's starting on the on the [Cm] G string with my forefinger [Eb] on that second fret and then just sliding up to the fourth fret
And when you do [E] that, it's actually [D] playing the same
It's playing a B string.
So it kind of it's nice because then you can sort of play both the that [Bb] B string as well so
Okay,
[F] [Bb]
[F] [Bb]
[F] [Bb]
[N] so coming out of that intro this there's two ways basically the chords over the verse pretty simple
They're just a G down [Bb] to the E minor
I get up in [Gm] the evening
[Bb] G to E [Gm] minor
And I ain't got nothing to [Bb] say
I come home in [Gm] the morning
[Bb] I go to bed
[Gm] Feeling the same [Eb] way
Right then we [N] sort of go into that second half of the verse
Yeah, so that's the [G] first half to that to [F] that verse then we change up to [Eb] the C
And I like to play C that's got that [C] G bass.
Do you play your C's like that?
[Cm] Yeah, [Bb] put fourth [Bbm] finger up there and then
[Eb] So basically what that means is you play all the strings and it just gives you a beefier sound
If you play the C like that that you really shouldn't play that in the strings
So it just means that you can just smash it away if you want
The the the lyrics to
[Gm] [Eb] Right so we just on the C down to the E minor
Sorry C down to the A minor
I ain't nothing [Cm] but tired
[Eb] I'm [Cm] just tired and bored [Bb] with my life
Back to the G
To the E [Gm] minor Hey baby
I [Bb] [G] could use just a little [Gm] help
[F] Up to the D
Now the [N] D is where we basically go into that chorus which is the can't stop
Can't start a fire
Okay, so now we're going to the chorus and which is [F] basically just over a D
Can't start a fire
Can't start
Now when when you
Play this little part [Dm] you just sort of slide up with [F] the melody
Can't start a fire without [Eb] a spark
Now the key when you're doing [F] this though [Bb] because you're sort of taking your fingers [Fm] off that D chord
You've got to be careful not to play all the strings there.
So you [Bb] just sort of play the
The D string in the [F] B string
Can't start a fire
Sorry the G string in the B string
Can't start a fire without [Eb] a spark
The C and then down to the E minor This gun
Sorry A minor
This [Cm] gun's for hire
[Eb] Even if we're [Cm] just dancing [Eb] in a car
Back to the [Bb] intro which goes
Back [F] to the
[Bb] [F]
[Bb] So [F] we'll just go through that chorus again
Up from the D
Can't start a fire
Can't [Dm] start a fire [F] without a [Cm] spark
[Eb] To the C down to the A minor
This [Cm] one's for hire
To the C again
[Eb] Even if we're just [Cm] dancing in a [Bb] car
Back to the intro
[F] Cool,
[Bb] [E] okay so what we're going to do now is coming [N] out of the second chorus we go back basically into the intro
And then we're going to come into the bridge
[E] Now the main [C] chord that you may or may not know
[Eb] It's sort of a little bit challenging to get your fingers around [E] sometimes
Is the B7 [G] and it sort of comes half way through [Ebm] this bridge
So the bridge starts on an E minor [G] and then goes up to the [Gm] G
Sitting around [Bb] getting older
To the C
[Eb]
There's a joke here [F] somewhere
Which is up to the D and then that's where [G] we go to the B7 just quickly
[D] And it's [Gm] on me
So we do [D] a B7 [Gm] to E minor
So a B7 is [D] your 4th [G] finger on the B [Ebm] string in the [N] first fret
And then the other 3 fingers
The middle finger, 4th finger and [A] the pinky
The [G] middle finger [N] is on the A
The 4th finger is on the G string
And the pinky is on the E string
And they're all in the second [D] fret
So [N] it's a little bit challenging to [E] get to [D] that chord
And [Gm] then to the E minor
[F] Alright [Em] so the [A] second half of the bridge is exactly the same except the [Fm] B7
So [Gm] first part of the bridge
To [Bb] the G
To the [Eb] C
There's a joke [F] here somewhere
To the [D] B7 And then
The thing is I do [G] play with the B7 is sometimes if I don't have time
I won't actually use my [D] pinky
I'll just use these 3 fingers it's a bit of a tease
And then you just don't play that top string
[Gm] [Bb]
And [Eb] [F]
then I kind of just do a little pause
Before [N] I go into that last verse
[Gm] Ok so yeah
So coming out of the bridge
[Eb]
Come on baby [F] the last song
And then we just go back into that last [Bb] verse
Stay on the streets of [Gm] this town
[Bb] They'll be [Gm] covering you up [Bb] alright
To the G
[Gm] I'm hungry
To [Bb] the G
Hey baby [Gm] I'm just about starving [Eb] tonight
And to the C
I'm dying for some [Cm] action
To the A minor
[Eb] I'm sick of sitting [Cm] around here trying to write this [Bb] book
B to the G
[Gm] I'm not sure
[Bb] Come [Gm] on baby give me just one [F] look
Up to the D for the chorus
You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a [Eb] spark
This [Cm] gun's fire
[Eb] Even if [Cm] we're just dancing
Back to the [F] chorus again
You can't start a fire
What about your little world falling [Eb] apart
This [Cm] gun's fire
[Eb] Even if we're [Cm] just dancing in [Bb] the dark
Back to the intro
[F]
[Bb] Even if we're [F] just dancing in [Bb] the dark
[F]
[Bb] Even if [F] we're just dancing in [Bb] the dark
Now you can just, over that last little bit
You could just go G to the E minor
[Gm] [Bb]
Even if we're [G] just dancing in [Bb] the dark
[Gm] Even [Bb] if [Gm] we're just dancing in [Bb] the dark
[N] That's it, pretty much it
