How to Play "Demons" by Imagine Dragons | HDpiano (Part 1) Piano Tutorial chords
Start Jamming...
[Eb] Hey there, everyone.
Welcome [F] back to HD [Eb] Piano.
I'm Phil, and today I'm going to be showing you
guys how to play Demons by Imagine Dragons, the piano riff.
And that piano riff repeats
throughout the entire song, and it sounds a little something like this.
[Bb]
[A] [Ab]
[Eb] [Bb] [A]
[Fm] And that repeats.
So let's start with the right hand today.
[C] Notice we're pretty high up.
Here's middle
C, way down [Am] here.
So we're one, two [Fm] octaves above middle C.
[Ab]
And we're going to play the
same three notes in the right hand the whole song.
[Bb] E flat, D, and B flat.
[Gb] Okay?
[C] And the
rhythmic pattern is E flat, D, E flat, B flat.
Okay?
That's going to [Eb] repeat.
[F]
That pattern
repeats for the first half of this piano riff.
The second half, we actually add a new note.
Instead of playing B flat, we're going to play Cs.
So it'll be like this.
Okay?
So the first
half, same pattern but B flats.
B flat.
[Eb] That happens four times [A] total.
Then [F] instead of B
flats, here we're going to go to C.
[G] And that repeats.
So back to B flat.
[F]
[Eb] That's the idea.
So let's pause on the right hand for a second.
Let's add the left hand.
We're going to start
just above middle C on an E flat major chord.
So that's E flat, G, B flat.
We'll hold that for
four counts.
By the way, there's four total chords and each one gets four counts.
So here's
the first one.
One, two, three, [Bb] four.
Then we're going here.
B flat major chord.
That's D, F,
B flat.
Four counts.
[Cm] Then we're going up to a C minor chord.
Almost the same as the first chord
but our top note is a C instead of a B flat.
So it's E flat, G, C.
C minor chord.
Our fourth chord,
we're [Gm] just changing our middle note here [Ab] to an A flat.
So this now becomes an A flat major chord,
which is E flat, A flat, C.
And then that four chord progression repeats.
[Eb] So E flat major, two,
three, [Bb] four.
E flat major, two, three, [Cm] four.
C minor, two, three, [Ab] four.
A flat major, two,
three, four.
[Eb] Try it one more time.
[Bb]
[Cm] [Ab]
Nicely done.
Let's get the right hand back in there and see
if we can't put these two together.
The trickiest part about this is that the right hand pattern
starts one note before the left hand.
So remember, [D] the right hand goes E flat, [F] D, E flat, B flat,
and that repeats.
But this first E flat plays before the left hand.
So it'll be like this.
One, two, [Eb] three, four.
One, two, three.
See that?
[Bb] Then, [Cm] then, [F] C in the right.
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb]
[Cm] So [Fm]
I want you to pause here and play it back at that tempo.
Rewind it, replay it at the slower
tempo as many times as you need because right now what we're gonna do is go up to the normal
speed of the recording for the final test.
So without further ado, here we go.
Piano riff,
normal tempo for Imagine Dragons, Demons.
Play it with me now.
One, two, [Eb] here we go.
[Bb] [Cm]
[F] Try it two
times in a row.
[Ab] So one more.
[Eb] Ready?
[Bb] [Cm] [F]
[Ab] [Eb] And so on.
So for the intro, verse, chorus, all the sections,
that's what we're doing.
Guys, way to go.
Give yourselves a hand.
Short and sweet, right?
