Chords for How to Play Dubstep Guitar

Hi, I'm Dave from [Bb] Boyinaband.com. After seeing [C] Kieran play dubstep [F] guitar in my studio tour video,
[Eb] a bunch of you guys [C] asked to see how to play it.
[F] So I figured I'd make [B] a quick video to show you [C] the basics of dubstep guitar [Bb] playing.
So first [Eb] of all, you want to make [C] sure your guitar's in tune.
[Bb]
So we're [Abm] just gonna do that now.
[F] _ [G] _ _ [Ab] _ _
[E] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ [D] _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ [F] _
_ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
Try to do it by ear [Ab] because you might not get the right pitch otherwise.

_ _ [A] _ _ _ And there we go.
Now we're ready [Eb] to play the guitar.
One thing to mention is that [Eb] on the dubstep guitar
you obviously have multiple strings.
But [F] this is actually a terrible design flaw [Eb] since multiple notes sound really messy when you've got a dubstep bass.

_ _ _ [Eb] Not pleasant.
I'm guessing they kept it since it kind of looks cool [Dm] like a conventional guitar.
But in fact, I would advise playing [C] one string at a time. _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ [C] _ Something [F] like that.
This guitar has a nice natural portamento to the synth as well.
Okay, this is obviously an [Eb] acoustic dubstep guitar.
So you get a slightly different [Abm] tonality from one of these and [F] from an electric, which I've [C] just got a brand new electric.
I'll show you that now.
Okay, this is my [B] new Ibanez _ _ [Ab] SKR111EX guitar.
Ibanez are known [E] for making really good quality dubstep guitars. _
[Ab] Different ones have different tones [Eb] as I say and this one's quite useful.
If you look at the pickup switch down here on this setting, [E] the bridge setting, we get [Abm] this kind of more high [N]-pitched tone. _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ [D] _ _ _ [Gb] _
[C] _ _ [Eb] Whereas if we switch it down to the other pickup,
_ _ we get a more kind of [E] bassy tone, which is really good for verses [Ab] building up to drops and things like that.
Or this in-your-face drop.
So something like [C] this.
_ [E] _ _ _ [Db] _
_ [C] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Abm] When you've got an electric as well,
you've obviously [Ab] got extra gain to play with so you can do some palm muting for instance to [E] get a more kind of plucked [C] tone
out of your basses.

_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ [Ab] _
Now I know one technique that's quite advanced is rhythmic gating.
It's quite difficult to do on the guitar.
[Eb] You've actually got to phase in [Ab] and out of [Abm] existence as you're playing the guitar.
Now this sounds a lot more [Bb] complicated than it actually is.
I [Abm] learned this in A-level physics.
_ It seems like it's completely impossible, but it turns out quantum physics means anything's possible.
[C] So just got to do something like this. _ _
_ _ _ _ [N] _ _ _ [Abm] _
So yeah, it's just a case of willing yourself out of existence whilst [F] you're playing.
Much like on a conventional electric guitar,
if you turn down the volume,
just here, [D] you can get a more kind of old-school [F] vibe.
I'll show you that.
I'll just play an open
_ [Abm] note and turn down the volume as I'm doing so.

_ _ _ [F] There you go.
[Ab] More kind of conventional older style wobble sound rather than the newer growl tone.
