Today I would like to share with you what is bar none my favorite Duran Duran song.
It's off their Rio album
It's called save a prayer
Now instead of just strumming the chords and singing what I've done is transcribe that bubbly keyboard part for guitar
Now in order to do that, I'm using a delay pedal.
I have my repeats and my time set for this
[Bm] Now that's going to give you the
[Am]
[A]
[D] Now what I'm doing there is
I'm going to take the delay off so you can see that first phrase
I start with my pinky at the fifth fret on the a string
[E] With my first finger at the second fret on the D string
Second finger at the third fret on the [F] D string
I then move my first finger to the second [Gb] fret on the G string
[F] And then with my pinky at the fifth fret [Am] on the G string
[B] With the delay
[Am]
[B] Take it off now you play that first phrase four times before [D] the full cycle begins now after you play the first Excuse [E] me
[Am]
[F] You're going to then move to F.
So your first finger is at the first fret on the low E string
[E] Then I use my second finger.
It's the same pattern
[Am]
Then I move over to B flat.
[Bb] So my first finger is at the first fret on the a string
And [Am] then [G] with my second finger on the third fret of the low E string I go to that G
[E]
[A]
[Am]
[F]
[D] Now with the delay on
[Gb]
[Am]
[E] [Am]
[E]
[Bb] Now that's going to give you the intro and the verse now to the chorus
Let me take this off what I'm doing is I'm playing a B minor chord
So with my first [Eb] finger at the second fret on the a string my third finger at the fourth fret on the D string
I put my pinky behind it on the G string on the fourth fret
My second finger will be on the third fret of the B string [Bm] and then my first finger is barred across
Now there's two different ways you can just play all
Like kind of open chords right here first position chords.
So B [D] minor
D
[G] G and then I'm playing [D] and
It's a D chord with an F sharp kind of root note there
So to do that, I'm using my first finger at the second fret of the low E
I'm with that first finger muting the a string there and then I take my second finger at the
second fret on the G string and then
I use my pinky at the third fret on the B string and that kind of when I when I do that
I use my pinky to mute
[Bm]
B minor [G] D G [D] [Bm]
and then to an a [E] suspended second
That's one way of doing it what [Bm] I do just because I like the tonality of the chords better I go from B minor
to a D suspended [A] here
So I'm making that D power chord and I'm borrowing with my first [D] finger across all [A] the strings
[D] and I move up to G here and
then go back to the
And with the delay after you play that what it's gonna [Bm] sound
[D]
[Bm] [G] [D]
[Gbm] [E] [Em] so all together what you're gonna have is
[Am]
[Bm] [A] [D]
[E] [Bm] [D]
[Gm] [D] [B] [Am]
[F]
[Eb] Okay, so there's all parts that [Bb] you need to play
Duran Duran's save a prayer.
I hope you like it.
I hope it helps you out man
And as always if you do if you dig a man, please
