[Em] Hey, [N] what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here, GuitarJams.com.
Gonna bring you a finger picking lesson right now.
Real quick, I always have bonus stuff that I give out.
There's always a link below this video box here.
You can click it, check it out, give you some bonus lessons, a bunch of cool stuff, and
I really appreciate that.
But let's get to the lesson.
The first thing I'm gonna show you is the set of chords that strum in this intro here.
And the first chord [Dm] is a C major chord.
So you got the third fret here, second fret there, [C] first fret there.
I'm gonna show you that pattern in a second, the finger pattern.
But so we've got that chord.
Then we're gonna take our index finger off and that becomes what's called C major 7.
So you got 1, 2, [Em] 3, 4.
[G] Then we're gonna take our pinky to the third fret of the B.
1, 2.
Then pinky [C] off to a normal C again.
So watch.
Index off, pinky on, index back on.
Okay, the next chord set [Bb] is really just everything that kind of revolves around this A minor
chord, which is 2, 2, and 1.
But it starts with the index finger [E] off.
[Em] That's one of the things I screwed up on my [C] first attempt here.
So we've got ring [Em]
[C] [E] finger comes here, pinky on the same spot as the C while we hold that.
So you've got [A] then [Am] index, pinky off, index [E] off.
So that's that whole intro.
[C] Check it out.
C, [Em] index [C] off, pinky on, index on, [E] A minor with no index, [Am] pinky, index.
[E] No index.
[C]
[B] [Am] [E]
[C] [B] And so then what we want to do is focus on this right hand.
It's another basic Travis picking kind of technique.
And I'm not, you know, a lot of people know this, but fingerstyle is not my forte.
[Eb] But I have worked this out and the pattern with our right hand is gonna stay the same
for this whole intro, which is good news.
So we've got this C chord and we're gonna pluck the A string and the B string.
[C] [Bb] Not bad, right?
[C]
[Cm] Then we're gonna go thumb [N] on the D.
And I'm actually only using my thumb in middle now
for this whole little intro.
So we've got this, [C] then thumb on the D, and I'm using my middle [Bb] on the G.
You could use your index if you want.
[G]
So we've [C] got, check it out again, [D] followed by the A and the B.
And I'm using my thumb
and middle finger again.
[C] So we've got the A and the B together, followed by the D, G, then the A, B separate.
When you put it together, it looks like this.
[G]
Two more notes, and [C] then that's the whole pattern.
And that last, the last two notes are D, G.
So we've got these two together, D, G, A, B separate, and [Em] then D, G.
[C]
[Bm] Start really slow and then, you know, eventually speed it up a little bit at a time.
And then we're gonna do that finger pattern.
And the finger pattern that we learn is for one time [E] for each of [C] these left hand chords.
So check it out.
[A] [E]
[A] [Am]
[E] [C]
[E] [A]
[Am] [E] [C]
[D] So it starts right with that.
And that pattern is a really nice pattern to know.
It's used in a lot of other songs.
And it's actually pretty much used in the rest of this song, but we're gonna pick that
up in another lesson real soon.
One more time, super slow.
[C]
[Em]
[G]
[C] [Em] [E]
[A]
[Am] [E]
[C] [Gb] All right, that was the lesson.
[N] Remember, I always have bonus features, videos, chord and scale book.

I appreciate it.
And we'll see you [G] in another lesson real soon.
[B] Take care.
