[Eb] In this lesson we'll [F] learn how to play Easy [Eb] by Commodores.
We'll learn the main riff [Cm] in this video.
[A] The main riff sounds like this.
[Ab]
[Cm] [Bbm] [Db]
[Ab] [Cm] [Bbm] [Ab] So this main riff, or what I played specifically,
the intro, also counts for the verse and the chorus,
and a lot of the interludes.
And it starts on this A flat major chord.
A flat in the left, and then A flat, C, E flat in the right.
Top note of the right hand stays, everything else [Cm] changes.
To give us this [C] C minor seven, which is C in the left,
[Eb] G, B [Cm] flat, E flat in the right.
[Bbm] [Cm] Everything shifts down [Bbm] from here to a B flat minor seven,
that's our next chord.
[Fm] It's B flat in the [Db] left, F, A flat, D flat in the right.
[Bbm] And then our final chord of the progression
has us leaving the right hand the same.
We were here, right hand stays put,
[Db] left hand [F] drops to E, that gives us D flat over E flat.
Let's loop that.
[Ab] One, [Cm] two, three, four.
[Bbm] One, two, [Db] three, one more time, [Ab] and.
[Cm]
[Bbm] [Db] Okay, [Ab] at this point it would kinda sound good.
I mean, it would sound certainly recognizable
if I were just to play just [Cm] quarter notes
in [Db] the right hand.
♪ Easy like Sunday [Ab] morning, I [Cm]
[Ab] However, in this main riff, we hear a rhythm
that's repeated throughout, and that rhythm looks like this.
[Cm] [Bbm] [Db] Watch [Ab] the right hand specifically.
[Cm] [Db] What's [Ab] happening is we're playing the chord
on the downbeat, and then we're doing short long
on the top two notes and the bottom note, respectively.
So one, short long, [Eb] three, short [Db] long,
one, short long, three, short long,
on exactly the chords we [Ab] just learned, okay?
See if we can do that right hand part together.
Ready, a little slower.
Ready and play, E and, one, E and,
two, E [Eb] and, three, E and, [Db] four, E and,
one, E and, two, E and, three, E and,
four, [Ab] E and, repeat.
Two, E and, [Eb] three, E and, four, E [Db] and,
one, E and, two, E and, three, E and.
Here's the left hand [Ab] together.
[Cm] Watch it.
[Bbm] [Db]
[Ab] [Cm] [Bbm] [Db] [Ab] So what the left hand is doing is anticipating
the next downbeat, so it's playing one,
a [C] three, a four, [Bb] a one,
a one, E and, a two, E [Eb] and, a three,
a four, [Ab] E and, a one, E and, a two, [C] E and,
a three, E and, a [Ab] four.
All right, and that works sort of,
it works well in sync with the right hand.
You can hear them working, kind of playing together.
E and, a two, E [Cm] and, a three, E [Eb] and, a four,
E [Bbm] and, a one, E [Db] and, a two, E and, a four.
[Ab]
And let's actually play the verse.
So here's, assuming this is the verse.
No, this [Cm] felt funny, but I just [Db] can't stand the pain.
Okay, you'll get 95% there with what I've taught [Eb] you.
The song is Easy, it's by Commodores.
[Dm] Lionel Richie was made famous by this.
But we do have [Eb] some more sections to learn on it.
And again, those
