[D] So a lot of musicians, [Db] as soon as they sit down, [G] they start playing nice passing [Em] chords.
[D] And if you notice, I'm [Gbm] going to [Bb] [Gm] [Gbm] [C] [Em]
[D] [G] be in the key [D] of D.
Now I'm going to show you how to use these
passing chords in a real life application.
[G]
[A]
Keeping [D]
it simple.
[Bm] [Db]
[Bm] [Ab] [E] [Gbm] [Eb]
[Bm] There it is, that same [G] movement we used earlier.
[A]
[D]
[Eb] [E] [Gbm]
[Gm] So [Gbm] [D]
as you can see, we can use that movement or those [N] passing chords literally in any song going
to the fourth chord.
And we're going to do this in all 12 keys.
And also in this piano tutorial,
I'm going to give you guys some additional passing chords that you can use to take you to other
chords and other parts of this song.
And this honestly will work in any song that you play
that takes you to the fourth chord or takes you to a sixth chord.
And those are basic minor
and major chord destinations.
So let's jump in.
So you guys [D] probably noticed that we're in the
key of D, but don't worry, I'm going to move this to a different key to make it easier for you guys
to implement this into all 12 keys.
[A] But we started off with this.
[G] These are drop [B] two chords.
[D] I'm just playing them for you.
We're not going to use them in the song,
but we did use this passing [G] chord.
[E]
[Bb] [E] [Gbm] [C]
[G] [Bm] And what I did was I used this passing progression or passing
chords to take me to the fourth chord.
So let's say we're doing the song, a simple song.
[D] Amazing
[G] [Gb] grace, [Ebm] [Gm] [Gbm]
[Gb] how [G] sweet.
Just like that.
How sweet takes you right there to it.
Or it also takes you to a
takes you to a nice sixth chord if you want to create that type of movement.
But mainly I would
use it to take me to the fourth chord.
Okay.
Now for sake of time, what [Abm] I'm going to do to make
things simple, we're going to go to the key of C.
And the purpose of going to the key of C
is so that you can clearly see things much easier because we're in all white keys.
So let's go to
key of C.
Hold on, before we go to this next step, did you guys know that it only takes three seconds
to click that thumbs up button to say, Casey, you know what?
I enjoy what you're doing.
I appreciate
what you're doing.
Keep up the good work.
Click that thumbs up button down below.
Three seconds.
[C] All right.
So let's keep this moving.
Okay.
So now we're in the key of C and that movement,
if you [F] notice,
[G] [Ebm] [D]
[Em] [Dbm] [C]
and they can use that to take you to the fourth [F] chord in the [C] key of C.
Now,
[G] what's the theory behind this?
I don't want you just randomly learning chord progressions and
passing chords.
I want you to have the knowledge behind this.
So if you look at this, we're going
to go to a five, which [F] is G.
That first chord
[Em] goes over G.
And this is, looks like a G9 with a 13
in the key of C.
So this is my five to the [C] one.
You all know this [Em] movement from our transform
series.
I'm telling you guys, we have so many different progressions and [G] passing chords and
transition chords in our all access plan, which will show you how to do these movements in all
12 keys.
So, [F] so this is my five [G] to the one.
So anytime you want to go to the one [C] chord,
[B] [G]
this takes you there.
All right.
So we have this.
So this is like a five [F]
[Em] to the one.
And then we're going to take this chord down a half [Ebm] step.
Now this is my seven.
[B] [Em] So we have five to the one.
[G]
And that one is a C6 with [D] the nine.
And we're going to take this down
[C] a half step [B] to a B6 with the nine.
[C] So we have, [B]
so let's do this [Em] together.
[C]
[Ebm] [D]
So we're doing this.
So you can see this clearly, and I'm going up a half step into this.
And you can use this for
talk music.
You can use this for so many different applications.
And this is over [Bb] the, [D]
or some [E] of you
guys could play this over a [C] three.
[D]
So that would turn into a E7 with our flat nine sharp five.
And this will take you to a six chord.
So you can do this.
[C] See that?
[D]
[C] [D] Slur [C] that up
[Fm] [Em]
to a nice A minor nine.
That's not what we're going to do though, [C] but I'm just showing you
how you can use these passing chords to take you to different chord progressions.
Watch
[Em] this.
[Eb] Can [D] you [Em] see?
All right.
I know I use these generic songs, but of course we did the song
Worthy is Your Name.
So this takes you to the sixth chord.
So let's do this whole passing progression.
Keep it going [Ebm] down.
And then we're going to go down again, but slur [D] up.
And [Em] then,
[A] and this is [G]
over a, so it's like an A9 suspended fourth.
[A] Of [Em] course we're not using that, but,
and then I'm going to resolve these two [Dbm] notes.
[Em] [G]
[E] You hear that a lot in West Coast [Em] movements.
[E]
[A] All right.
[Em] Slow this down, [G] KC.
[E] Now that turns into an A7 with a flat nine, and that takes you [C] to a
[Am] D minor nine.
And we see here, we also have the 11th here.
So let's do this whole progression
together again.
This is nice [C] when you're just trying to set the [Em] tone.
[G] [Ebm]
[D] [Em] [Dbm] [Am]
All right.
So in the
context of that song, Worthy is Your Name.
Worthy is your name.
[F]
[G] Jesus.
You deserve [C] the praise.
Worthy is your [Am] name.
[Em]
[Db] [D] [Em] [E] [Am]
That's where that lick can take you.
Now you notice I'm coming to a two chord
instead of a [F] four chord.
All right.
But you can still use this to take you to the four.
I [D] just
[Am] decided to go to the D minor nine with the 11th.
All right.
Now I did some other passing chords.
Y'all remember that to take you to the sixth, some really nice passing chords.
So this is a nice
passing chord to take you to [Eb] the sixth chord.
[C] All right.
And so if you look here, I'm going to play
a C and [Ebm] with my right hand, I'm going to play an E flat minor chord.
And again, this is in the
Transformula series where I show you how to play this also in all 12 keys.
So we're going to start
here and we're going to go up a half step, [Db] one more half [D] step.
And this takes you to your destination
chord, which is an A minor [Em] chord.
All right.
So how would you use this?
[C] Amazing grace, how sweet
the [Ebm] sound [Em] [D]
that [C] saved or blessed assurance [F]
Jesus [C] is mine.
Oh, [Ebm] what [Em] [D]
a [Em] fortune.
All right.
Or [C] how
great is our God seeing with [Em] me.
[D] How [Em] great.
So this is a [C] nice passing chord.
And if you look here,
this is a C minor seven with the flat five [Db] up a half step, [D] another half step.
And what I did was
a [Ebm] stutter.
[Em] [D]
So [Ebm] I played [Em] this chord and played again and quickly go to the third [D] one.
See [Ebm] that?
So
[Em] [D]
[Em] nice little passing chord.
Again, this takes you to the sixth chord.
And if you want more passing
chords, check this video right here.

[D] And if you notice, I'm [Gbm] going to [Bb] [Gm] [Gbm] [C] [Em]
[D] [G] be in the key [D] of D.
Now I'm going to show you how to use these
passing chords in a real life application.
[G]
[A]
Keeping [D]
it simple.
[Bm] [Db]
[Bm] [Ab] [E] [Gbm] [Eb]
[Bm] There it is, that same [G] movement we used earlier.
[A]
[D]
[Eb] [E] [Gbm]
[Gm] So [Gbm] [D]

[C] All right.
So let's keep this moving.
Okay.
So now we're in the key of C and that movement,
if you [F] notice,
[G] [Ebm] [D]
[Em] [Dbm] [C]
and they can use that to take you to the fourth [F] chord in the [C] key of C.
Now,
[G] what's the theory behind this?

_ [D] And if you notice, I'm [Gbm] going to _ [Bb] _ [Gm] _ [Gbm] _ [C] _ [Em] _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ [G] be in the key [D] of D.
Now I'm going to show you how to use these
passing chords in a real life application. _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
Keeping _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
it simple.
_ _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ [Db] _
[Bm] _ _ [Ab] _ [E] _ [Gbm] _ [Eb] _ _
[Bm] There it is, that same [G] movement we used earlier.
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ _ [E] _ _ [Gbm] _ _ _
_ [Gm] So _ [Gbm] _ [D] _ _ _
as you can see, we can use that movement or those [N] passing chords literally in any song going
to the fourth chord.
_ [G] _ _ _ These are drop [B] two chords.
_ _ [D] _ I'm just playing them for you.
We're not going to use them in the song, _ _
but we did use this passing [G] chord.
_ [E] _
_ [Bb] _ _ [E] _ _ [Gbm] _ _ [C] _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [Bm] _ And what I did was I used this passing progression or passing
chords to take me to the fourth chord.
So let's say we're doing the song, a simple song.
[D] Amazing
_ [G] [Gb] grace, _ [Ebm] _ _ [Gm] _ [Gbm] _
[Gb] how [G] sweet.
_ Just like that.
How sweet _ _ takes you right there to it.
Or it also takes you to a _ _ _
takes you to a nice sixth chord if you want to _ _ create that type of movement.
Okay.
So now we're in the key of C _ and that movement,
if you [F] notice, _
_ [G] _ _ _ [Ebm] _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ [Em] _ _ [Dbm] _ _ _ [C]
and _ they can use that to take you to the fourth [F] chord in the [C] key of C.
Now,
[G] what's the theory behind this?
I don't want you just randomly learning chord progressions and
passing chords.
I want you to have the knowledge behind this.
So if you look at this, we're going
to go to a five, which [F] is G.
That first chord _
[Em] goes over G.
And this is, _ _ looks like a G9 with a 13 _
in the key of C.
So this is my five to the [C] one.
You all know this [Em] movement _ _ _ from our transform
series.
I'm telling you guys, we have so many different _ progressions and [G] passing chords and
transition chords in _ our all access plan, which will show you how to do these movements in all
12 keys.
So, [F] _ so this is my five [G] to the one.
So anytime you want to go to the one [C] chord, _ _
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _ [G] _
this takes you there.
All right. _ _ _ _
So we have this. _ _ _
_ So this is like a five [F] _
[Em] to the one.
And then we're going to take this chord down a half [Ebm] step.
_ Now this is my seven. _
[B] _ _ _ _ _ [Em] So we have five to the one.
[G] _ _
And that one is a C6 with [D] the nine.
And we're going to take this down
[C] a half step _ [B] to a B6 with the nine.
[C] So we have, _ [B] _
_ so let's do this [Em] together.
_ [C] _ _
_ [Ebm] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ So we're doing this. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
So you can see this clearly, and I'm going up a half step into this.
And you can use this for
talk music.
You can use this for so many different applications.
_ And this is over [Bb] the, _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
or some [E] of you
guys could play this over a [C] three.
[D] _ _ _
_ So that would turn into a E7 with our flat nine sharp five. _
And this will take you to a six chord.
So you can do this.
_ [C] _ _ See that?
[D] _ _
[C] _ [D] _ _ _ Slur [C] that up
[Fm] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
to a nice A minor nine.
That's not what we're going to do though, [C] but I'm just showing you
how you can use these passing chords to take you to different chord progressions.
_ Watch _ _
_ [Em] this. _ _ _ _ _
[Eb] Can _ [D] _ _ you _ _ _ [Em] see?
All right.
I know I use these generic songs, but of course we did the song
Worthy is Your Name.
So this takes you to the sixth chord.
So let's do this whole passing progression. _ _ _ _ _
Keep it going [Ebm] down.
_ _ And then we're going to go down again, but slur [D] up.
_ _ And [Em] then, _
_ _ _ _ [A] and this is [G] _
over a, so it's like an A9 suspended fourth. _
[A] _ _ Of [Em] course we're not using that, but,
and then I'm going to resolve these two [Dbm] notes.
_ [Em] _ _ [G] _
[E] You hear that a lot in West Coast [Em] movements.
_ [E] _
_ [A] All right.
_ [Em] _ _ Slow this down, [G] KC.
_ _ _ [E] Now that turns into an A7 with a flat nine, and that takes you [C] to a _
_ _ _ _ [Am] D minor nine.
And we see here, we also have the 11th here.
So let's do this whole progression
together again.
This is nice [C] when you're just trying to set the [Em] tone.
_ _ [G] _ [Ebm] _ _
[D] _ _ [Em] _ [Dbm] _ _ _ [Am] _ _
_ _ _ _ All right.
So in the
context of that song, Worthy is Your Name.
_ Worthy is your name.
[F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] Jesus.
_ _ _ You deserve [C] the _ praise. _ _
_ _ Worthy is your [Am] name.
[Em] _
[Db] _ _ [D] _ [Em] _ [E] _ _ _ [Am]
That's where that lick can take you.
Now you notice I'm coming to a two chord
instead of a [F] four chord.
All right.
But you can still use this to take you to the four.
I [D] just
[Am] decided to go to the D minor nine with the 11th.
All right.
Now I did some other passing chords.
Y'all remember that to take you to the sixth, some really nice passing chords.
So this is a nice
_ passing chord to take you to [Eb] the sixth chord.
[C] All right.
And so if you look here, I'm going to play
a C and [Ebm] with my right hand, I'm going to play an E flat minor chord.
And again, this is in the
Transformula series where I show you how to play this also in all 12 keys.
So we're going to start
here and we're going to go up a half step, [Db] _ one more half [D] step. _
And this takes you to your destination
chord, which is an A minor [Em] chord.
_ _ _ All right.
So how would you use this?
[C] _ _ Amazing grace, how sweet
the [Ebm] sound [Em] _ [D] _
that [C] saved or blessed assurance [F]
Jesus [C] is mine.
Oh, [Ebm] what [Em] _ [D] _
a [Em] fortune.
All right.
Or [C] how
great is our God seeing with [Em] me. _
[D] _ How [Em] great.
_ So this is a [C] nice passing chord.
And if you look here,
this is a C minor seven with the flat five [Db] up a half step, _ [D] another half step.
And what I did was
a [Ebm] stutter.
[Em] _ _ [D]
So [Ebm] I played [Em] this chord and played again and quickly go to the third [D] one.
See [Ebm] that?
So
[Em] _ [D] _ _ _
[Em] _ _ nice little passing chord.
Again, this takes you to the sixth chord.
