HOW TO PLAY - HALLOWEEN THEME - by John Carpenter (Piano Tutorial Lesson) chords
Start Jamming...
Hello guys, this is Amos Style Music and in today's lesson I'm going to teach you how to play this spooky spooky theme.
It's called the Halloween Theme by John Carpenter.
I'll give you a preview.
It goes like this.
Not difficult, there are [F#] patterns to it.
It goes like this.
[A]
[F]
[F#] Beats.
[A]
[F]
[F#] Etc.
You're going [F] to keep repeating that for an infinite amount of times.
But anyway, really awesome stuff.
Not hard at all.
We'll break it up into two parts to learn it.
Here we go.
First part goes like this.
Right hand, we have this 10 note pattern played twice.
This song is interesting.
It's actually in 5-4 times.
It's like 5 beats per phrase.
It's really interesting.
But anyways, here we go.
There are 10 note phrases played twice for the first part of the right hand.
The 10 notes are, starting on the high C sharp here.
So middle C, go up an octave to C, go up an octave to C.
So it goes [F#] C sharp, down to F sharp twice.
Repeat those 3 notes again for the 6th note.
C sharp, down to F sharp, F sharp.
After that, it goes back up to C sharp, down to F sharp, [G] up to D, back down to F sharp.
[F#] And that's it for the right hand for this 10 note pattern.
You repeat it again.
So it goes C sharp, F sharp, F sharp, C sharp, F sharp, F sharp, C sharp, F sharp, D, F sharp.
Like that.
So you can see a pattern going on here.
The first 6 notes are just 3 notes played twice.
It's the C, [C] F sharp, F sharp played twice.
[F#] And then it goes C sharp, [Bm] F sharp, D, F sharp.
The F sharp is kind of like this bottom support line.
You go back to it every single time.
[F#] So it's like
[G#] 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 2.
Count that rhythm as well.
It's quite important to get that rhythm as well.
Anyways, one more time.
It goes C sharp, F sharp, F sharp, C [Bm] sharp, F sharp, F sharp, C sharp, F sharp, D, [F#] F sharp.
Repeat.
[Bm] Yeah.
Okay.
This right hand, the reason why we're spending so much time on this is because this pattern is very [G] important.
The second part is almost the same as this pattern, but it's just like half step lower.
That's why we need to spend so much time on it.
But once we get this pattern right now, then you can actually get the second part very easily as well.
But anyways, that's that for the right hand for the first part.
Once you get that, left hand we have 2 bass notes here.
Best to do it in octaves so it's more boomy.
If you can't do it in octaves, just do [F#] individual notes.
But anyway, F sharp octave.
Middle C sharp.
This is the F sharp for the reference.
Then [A] it goes up to the A octave.
Those are the 2 bass notes for the first part.
Pretty [F#] simple.
[A] F sharp and A.
Remember that for the left hand.
2 hands together is really simple.
You know how there's 10 notes per phrase for that?
In total of [B] 20 notes for the first part.
Every first note out of the 10 notes, you play it with the left hand notes.
It goes like [F#] this.
[A] Like that.
Pretty simple right?
Just remember, first note for every 10 notes, you play it with the left hand together.
[F#] [A]
Just like that.
And there you have it for the first part.
Not that difficult once we learn those patterns.
Then, the [F] second part goes like this.
The right hand, the reason why we spent so long for that first part, here's how it goes to use now.
Instead of the first part where it's C sharp and F sharp, everything on the right hand now in the second part [C] goes down half a step.
Now we change to C, [F] F, F, C, F, F, [C] C, F, D flat, F.
And then repeat that again.
C, F, F, C, F, F, C, F, D flat, F.
[D#] That's it for the right hand.
Can you see that?
There's the right hand pattern.
It's pretty much exactly the same as the first part right hand, but everything else is just down one semitone or just down half a step if you like to call it.
So yeah, that's why [C] it's so important to learn the first part.
So one more time.
So right hand, really simple.
It goes C, F, F, C, F, F, C, F, D flat, F.
C, F, F, C, F, F, C, F, D flat, F.
Just like that.
And there you have it [E] for the right hand.
[F] Super easy pattern because of the first part.
Once you get that, left hand, we just have one bass note here.
This is actually a double bass note.
We have F and B flat here.
So middle C, down an octave C, B flat and F down here.
Like that.
So F and B flat.
Remember that.
You hold that.
[C#] So all you need to do is play [F] the first note and you hold it.
Like
[F]
that.
You hold it for the 20 notes for the right hand.
So once you get that, then you put the two parts [F#] back to back.
It goes like this.
Check it out.
[A] [F]
Like that.
And then you repeat [F#] it.
[A]
[F]
Like that.
You just repeat that back to back.
So it might be hard at first because you want to really finish off every 8 notes.
You want to finish off before the last bit.
Because you normally [C#] are very inclined to count with the total of 4 beats every single time.
But this is like 10 notes per phrase.
That's why you feel a bit weird.
But that's how it is for this song.
Just remember it as that.
[F#]
[A] [C#] Just count like that.
So count that 3's for 2 times.
So 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 2.
And you'll be all good.
So it's like 2 groups of 3, then 2 groups of 2.
Always remember that and you'll [F#] be all fine.
[A]
[F]
Like that.
So that's pretty much it.
Those are all the patterns.
Hope you got it.
Hope it's not too confusing.

Like _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [F] _

You hold it for the 20 notes for the right hand.
