Hi everybody and welcome to this tutorial for Pharrell's happy in which I will show you how to play the entire song
I copied the bass guitar and the Rhodes piano and made sort of a combination piano part
So you'll be able to play the entire song the exact parts from the song starting off with
Much seen crazy, you know
That first at first I'll show you the chords
That [F] first chord is an F chord with an added 7 so it's f7 use the first inversion F
AC with an E flat and then the first inversion left hand octaves 1 2 3 4
Mutsy.
Yeah, then we're there and in the entire song
He sort of sings a phrase and then there's sort of a counterpart with the instruments
So you'll have no instruments playing underneath that much
Crazy but say and then after that phrase
There's a thing played and that thing is the exact same after every phrase.
So I'll show you how to play that [Ab] now
[Fm] bass guitar it's like
[F] That's the thing How?
Do you play at first?
I'll show you the left hand the bass
[Ab] so
[Fm] that is
These are the notes we're using
[Bb] Yeah, I [F] use flam techniques
I'll show you how to make it more difficult and more like this in a second first the sort of basic part
[Ab]
[F] Yeah, so that's F
[Ab] a flat [Bb] F
B flat [Ab] a flat C
[Bb] B flat [Ab] a flat [Ab] B flat a [F] flat slowly
[Ab] [F]
like that You
[Bb] [F]
Now if you want to sort of copy me more like I did [Bb] the first time then I use
[F] Sort of that is a phrasing thing which can make it more
Funky flowing whatever you want to call it.
[Ab] [Fm] Yeah, so that's done
[Bb]
goes now to the [Fm] B flat so
Really fast play this a flat really fast in front of [Ab] the beat and then [Bb] before I go to see
[C] Same [F] thing so that will be
[Bb]
[Ab] [Fm] Okay now the chords
Which you'll play on top of that are F minor 7 for the first
Yeah together with the F together with the a flat
Just an a flat [Fm] chord.
So sorry F minor 7 is a flat C E flat F.
That's the first voicing
so
Yeah
Yeah
[F] [Bb] B flat as
There's a B flat over here
[Ab] [C] C [Bb] major B flat was B flat D.
Oh, sorry B [C] flat D F then where you play C
there's a C chord [Bb]
and this is sort of
because the [Ab] baseline
Alternates between this [Bbm] a flat and B flat.
It's a B flat chord over there.
So this might sound
when you play it like this is sort of
Itchy [Bb] but
[Fm] Yeah one more time slowly
So [Ab] [Bb]
[Bbm] you play this?
Simultaneously with the a flat which sounds as [Bb] said sort of funky, but
[Ab] [Fm] yeah, [Bb]
and then [F] when once you land on the F you do an F 7 again, so and
[Bb] [C] [Bb] then a B flat
[F] F 7 [Fm] I see crazy
I'm about to say
[C] [F]
Okay
[Db] Then that is repeated repeated repeated and then we get to the chorus which sounds like this
[Cm] [F]
[Db] Yeah
Might seem difficult is sort of difficult.
Not really
First chord first the chords the right hand just is gonna just lay those chords down
You could sort of play something like this
[Cm] [F]
[Db] Yeah sort of get your own feel to it
But now I try to copy the bass guitar in the left hand and the piano just lays down those chords
Yeah, so we're gonna copy that first chord is a C sharp major
7 this is your regular C sharp major C sharp F and G sharp and then add a C major 7 over here
left hand C sharp and
Notice that you'll be playing one five one every time for all those three chords here in the
Chorus, so stick [Ab] to octaves for now and notice that your index finger is situated above the five
Which is the G sharp which we're going to use in a second also, [Db] so
two three four
[Cm] then on to a C minor [C] seven again octaves in your left hand [G] C's and your
Index finger is again situated above the five of the chord, [C] which is a G in this case
[Cm] C sharp C minor is C and E [Eb] flat a G and a B flat [Db] so that's
[Cm] Three four one two three four yeah with C's then again this C minor and then to an [F] F
7 which is the same concept F octaves and your index finger is situated above the five here a C
The right hand voicing this is a regular F chord which we already [F] saw at the seven
Inverted down and again C E flat F and a okay [Db] now play it like this
[Cm]
[Db] so slowly
Yeah
[Cm] So
[F] [C] I'm not saying you cannot add extra notes or anything
But this is sort of exactly what the bass guitar does in combination with the piano
And also the whole song because the rest of the song is just melodic phrases with different clapping happy
Happy happy happy no instruments over there, so it's just a repetition of this
Mainly this chorus it repeats kind of like endlessly if you've seen those clips 24-hour clips or whatever
So guys that's it.
You'll be able to play the entire song

[Ab]
[F] Yeah, so that's F
[Ab] a flat [Bb] F
B flat [Ab] a flat C
[Bb] B flat [Ab] a flat [Ab] B flat a [F] flat slowly
[Ab] [F]
like that You
[Bb] [F]
Now if you want to sort of copy me more like I did [Bb] the first time then I use
[F] Sort of that is a phrasing thing which can make it more

[Ab] [Fm] Yeah, so that's done

Yeah

[F] [Bb] B flat as

Index finger is again situated above the five of the chord, [C] which is a G in this case
[Cm] C sharp C minor is C and E [Eb] flat a G and a B flat [Db] so that's
[Cm] Three four one two three four yeah with C's then again this C minor and then to an [F] F
7 which is the same concept F octaves and your index finger is situated above the five here a C
The right hand voicing this is a regular F chord which we already [F] saw at the seven
Inverted down and again C E flat F and a okay [Db] now play it like this _ _
