Hi everybody and welcome to yet another classic pop piano song.
John Hyatt's
Have a Little Faith in Me.
Let's dive right [Dm] into it.
_ _ [F] _ _ _
_ That's the signature piano intro and also
the part for the verse.
It's played like this.
The first chord is an F chord.
We play the first
inversion with our right hand and leave out the third.
So we're just left with a C and an F.
Left hand and F.
One, two, [Dm] three, four, _ [F] five.
Alright so we have eight beats.
The first three
are played on this F chord.
Then we get to a [F] D minor 7 chord which is [C] played like this.
This
is your regular D minor at the 7 over here.
So actually it's [Dm] sort of an F chord over D.
Then invert it [A] again to be left with the first inversion.
Again leave out the [F] A which is now
the 5 of the D and we're left with C and F.
I'm giving you sort of an insight into what the chords
actually are because you can expand the part later on.
For the verse and the intro it's actually very
simple because it's just F and C all the time.
But the relationships to the bass notes change and
once you know what that is and you know we'll get to that in a second.
The third chord [Bb] is a B
flat chord sus2.
So this is your regular B [F] flat.
We leave out the third, add a two and [Bb] once we
play that bass [Fm] over here you see what we're left with.
The C and [F] an F again.
One, two, three, _ _
_ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _
[F] _ _ [F] one,
two, three, four, five.
Yeah so three, [Dm] five, [F] three, five.
Okay that is the intro and the verse.
_ [Dm] _ _ _ _ _
Yeah next to the chorus.
Have a little faith in me.
Yeah that is an F chord.
I'll just show you
the basics first.
F chord, regular F, first inversion, second inversion, C, F, A.
_ _ _ [C] Then we
have a C chord with an E in the bass so that's C over E.
Just a regular C chord, C, E, G with an
E in the bass _ to a D minor [Dm] _ which is the F and A.
A D in the left hand.
[Am] Then an A minor chord over C.
So this is a regular A minor.
We use the first inversion so put this A [C] over here and play a C
in the bass.
So you see to remember it's actually very simple. _
Bass line [F] yeah.
Always think from
the basses.
Okay one, [C] two, three, [Dm] four, one, two, [Am] three, four.
Yeah there's one variation but I'll
get to that in a second because in live recordings he does [C] that all the time but on the record it's
only the second time.
So then [Bb] to a B flat, B flat over C.
So that's actually C sus _ and [F] then that
signature.
[Bb] _
_ _ Yeah okay again slowly.
[F] F to C [C] over E to D [Dm] minor, _
[Am] A minor.
_ Yeah so that's actually on
the record all the second round.
So you get to one, [Bb] two, three.
So the bass just goes from C to E and then a B flat [Am] instead of two times a C [Bb] and then a B.
Yeah [F] very tiny variation.
_ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _
[F] _ Okay so then we get to the second verse and now you'll see that it's quite
handy that we know which chords we are playing instead of just knowing these two notes.
Now we're
gonna move this C up here and maybe even double that but I suggest doing that with the left hand.
So we're left with an F and a C for the first chord and then he does something like this. _ _
_ _ _ _ _
Yeah so the chords stay the [Dm] same.
F, D minor 7 and a [Bb] B flat [F] and an F.
So let those notes be the lowest
you play with your left hand.
Now you play a full chord here, an F chord and use a flam technique.
Yeah _ so if you can't do that then _ it's perfectly fine as well of course.
_ Yeah the right hand F and
C and it stays on F and C except for the last chord but I'll show you in a second.
_ [Dm] D minor 7.
Now a whole D minor chord over here or if you think this sounds better [D] just
is maybe easier as well.
Just a one on five is [F] perfectly fine as well. _ _
Okay then a B [Bb] flat
chord over here which you could play as either octaves and an added five.
So B flats [Bb] and an F.
Same flam [D] technique or add the third as well to make it even more gritty and then get to the _
[C] you could if you want to make it even fuller then you [Fm] could also add the C over here the sus2
because you already have here you can double it to make it _ [F] on _ the F octaves and then a five so
F's and a [Dm] C.
Yeah okay [F] so one more time this slowly.
F chord for the start.
The rhythm is
the same as the first verse right?
One two three one two three four [F] five. _ _
_ _ _ All right then again have a little faith in me now use either this inversion as in
the root position F or you could double that C to make it fuller octaves in the left hand now.
_ _ _ [C] _ _
C for now voicing yeah or the first inversion if that's too difficult to grab.
This is a C
chord in first inversion with an E in the bass _ and [Dm] then D minor 7.
[F] So that's actually that same
chord again [Dm] but now with a D in the bass [Am] then an A.
_ _ Yeah we saw this already in the first part but
now play it all.
_ I think this is the exact voicing from the first round so.
_ _ _ [Bb] _
_ _ _ [F] _ _ _
_ So that C chord you could
either play this which [Bb] is _ actually that B sus2 for now voicing or you could just play a regular B.
So it's [F] perfectly fine both.
[C] _
_ _ [F] Have a little faith [C] in me.
_ [Dm] _ _ [Am] And then the A minor.
You know what I do?
[Bb] _ _
_ _ _ [F] _ _ _
Okay well you see I now use more rhythm or technique
that is getting into pop piano knowing your patterns and sort of adding rhythm.
Once you
know more patterns you can sort of make it your own.
_ [Dm] _ _ [Am] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ [F] Yeah okay but then we get to the bridge and
then we don't go _
[Bb] where [F] we go.
[A] _
_ [G] _ _ So guys thanks for watching.
I hope that you enjoyed this video.

you did then please hit the thumbs up, like it, share, leave a comment, get over to my website if
you want to learn more about how to play those things, how to really understand chords and pop
piano and make sort of your own parts out of this exactly the way that he approached the piano when
he wrote this song.
[Ab] If you're really interested or really motivated to get into that then maybe
even consider taking my course Hack the Piano which is all about this.
