guys Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis Presley.
Very simple tune.
So it's an E but you're
going to do not a first position E.
You're going to do the major E on the
seventh fret.
So you take your index finger and you put it on the A string on
the seventh and then the rest of your fingers are going to do the D G and B on
the ninth and you slide it down like that.
So [G] it begins with no chord on the
guitar.
He starts with singing [E] so
Since my baby left me, found a new place to dwell.
[C] Down at the end of Lonely Street.
And then you're going to go to E7 at the bottom in the first position.
So that's
[Bm] the A string on the second and the G string on the first with the open D
string in between.
Like that.
Then you're going to go to an [G#m] A7 which is the D and B on
the second fret with the open G in [C#] between to [Em] a B7 which is a bar [G] across
the second fret starting on the A string and then you're going to do the D string
on the fourth and the B string on the fourth.
Making sure you hold the bar down to
make sure that seventh [B] tonality really rings out.
[C#] And then you're going to go to
your first position E which is the A D on the second fret and the G on [E] the
first.
So this is the pattern.
Well since my baby left me, I found a new place to [B] dwell.
It's down at the end of Lonely Street.
[Bm] Heartbreak Hotel [A] baby, feeling so lonely baby, I get so lonely, [B] I get so lonely I [E] could die.
[B] So it's E7, [Em] after you do the slide offs, [Bm] E7, [A] A7, B7, [B] to the [E] E.
And then the solo
section in the middle.
[N] I'll show you kind of a loose way to play it in kind
of a box of notes that you can play it in.
It's the B and E string and you're
going to slide it from the 10th fret to the 12th fret.
And you can either do that
with one finger or you can do it with two.
So I like to kind of usually do that
with [Em] two.
Like that.
And then [C] on the high E you're going to go from the [G] 10th to the
12th.
Back to the 10th.
And then I'll show you the box scale that it goes in.
[Em] So that's
the 15th fret to the [E] 12th on the high E.
[G] 15th to the 12th on the B.
[Gm] 1412 on G.
[E] 1412 on D.
[D]
1412 on [A] A.
And 1512 on [G] low E.
So here's the scale.
[E] [A] [E] That's Heartbreak Hotel.
