How to Play How Sweet It Is - James Taylor (cover) - Medium 6 Chord Tune chords
Start Jamming...
Hey guys, Party Marty here, Easy Guitar Tunes.
I got another one of my favorite tunes by [G] one of my favorite artists, [Eb] James Taylor.
It's called How Sweet [E] It Is.
This is a great party tune to play in any situation.
It was also a request by [G] a couple of my subscribers, so I thought I would put this on the channel.
There's a lot going on in this song, but if you strum through these chords, you're able to pull it off no problem.
There's a few runs in it that I put in there that I'll try to explain that I can.
I also play this song on a G.
I know it's not the regular key that he plays it out of, but it fits my voice.
I'm trying to simplify this song a little bit so you guys can learn it.
Anyway, the chords to it are G, then I run from G into E minor, a simple three note run.
It's the top string on the G, then [F] the index finger on the second [Gb] fret, top string, and then [Em] E minor.
Then there's a [D] D, then there's a [C] C, and a C7.
So all it is is adding your baby [Eb] finger to the third string from the bottom in the [C] third fret.
It kind of gives it that bluesy feel, right?
There's also a G7.
[G]
I'm trying to think.
Am I missing anything?
I think I got them all.
So again, they're G, run into E [Em] minor,
[D] D, [C]
C, C7.
[Gb] There's also an A minor in there, and I run from my C to my A minor.
So it would look like [C] this.
[Am] So all [C] it is is your regular C shape, pluck the second string in the C,
then lift the third [G] finger, second finger, second fret, [Eb] second string from [B] the top.
[G] Then your regular A [Am] minor strum.
[D] So basically there's only one other run that I do after the chorus,
and that C kind of runs up to G and then back to C, so it's like four or five [C] notes.
Anyway, it goes like this.
Regular C shape.
Lift [Bb] that third finger, second string from the top in the second fret with your [B] second finger.
[C] And then open, second string from [A] the top.
And then third finger down, top string, third [G] fret, and then back down [C] to C.
So it sounds like this.
[B]
[C]
And then you run into A minor.
[Am] So [Eb] the strum is kind of a nice dancy kind [Bb] of a bebop strum almost.
It's [D] kind of like
[Em] [Em]
[D] [C]
[G]
[Em] Strum along with that until you get it, [D] and then join us for the song.
[C] [C] [G]
[C]
[G] So it's [F] kind of like that.
So yeah, practice that a little bit, and then join us with the song.
This is James Taylor, How Sweet It Is.
It's a really good tune to play, so let's give this one a [G] go.

[Am] [G] There you were.
Close my eyes at [Em] night.
[D] Wondering where would I be [C] without you in my life.
[G] Everything I did [Em] was such a bore.
[D] Everywhere I went [C] seems a better land than before.
[G] But you brighten up for [C] me all of my days.
[G] Love so sweet [C] in so many ways.
I [G] wanna stop and [C] thank you, baby.
I just [G] wanna stop and [C] thank you, baby.
Oh yeah.
How sweet [Am] it is to be loved [G] by you.
Just like sugar, darling.
[C] How sweet [Am] it is to [D] be loved [G] by you.
[C] [G] [Em]
[D] [C]
[G] [Em]
[D]
[Em] You were [G] better to me than [C] I was to myself.
[Em] For me, there's you and ain't nobody else.
I wanna stop [G] and thank you, baby.
I just wanna stop and thank you, baby. Oh [C] yeah.
How [Em] sweet it is to [D] be loved [G] by you.
[G] Feels so nice.
[C] How [Em] sweet it is to [D] be loved by you.
[G]
[C] How sweet [Am] it is to be [D]
loved by you.
Like honey to the beat, baby.
[C] How [Em] sweet it [Am] is to be [D] loved by you.
[C]
[G] [D] Now that's a great tune.
You can [Db] run that one on and keep singing that chorus, but that [N] is a real fun tune to play.
I've kind of condensed that.
I know there's a little bit going on in that song, but I did play it at a G.
