_ Hey, good morning! _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G#] Hey there, [C#] so I just wanted to make a quick video on these
really pretty _ [D#m] drop D [G#] voicings you can use for _ playing Luke Bryant's Jesus
Bout My Kids.
It's a really pretty song and so I just wanted to _ make a video
showing the chord voicings that I'm using to play it.
So, _ _ let me just pull out
my little notes here. _ _
So basically it starts [C#] with this intro, _ okay, [A] and what you
want to do is have your guitar in standard tuning [B] and then tune the low E
a whole step down to D [C#] and then tune every string a half step down so that
when you play your final D chord _ you're actually playing a C sharp major, okay. _
_ _ So, now that you [F#] know that, [F] let's start with [C#] the intro, okay, which is this really
pretty. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [A#m] So, my ring finger is going to be here on the fourth fret of the [C#] D _ and
then my middle finger is on the third fret of the B.
_ _ _ Pretty much every other
string [G#m] is open, so I'm just not really hitting that high E string, [C#] but I'm going _ _ _
_ [C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
to play it.
This is the chorus. _ _ _
_ [F#] It stays on that one chord, _ so now that we're in the [C#] chorus,
you know it starts [F#] with the one, then it goes to a four chord, _ and I like this
[G#] voicing, _ _ _ especially because [F] you can do that cool hammer-on, but [F#] your pinky
basically is on the fifth fret of the low E.
[C#] _ D string [F#] is open and then G string can
be open, but you [G#] can also use that to hammer-on with your first finger here,
hammer-on [C#] there, and then you can have your middle finger [F] play that third fret
of the B again, [F#] _ _ _ _ so_ _ _
[C#] _ _ Right?
And you can [F#] kind of _ _ _ _ [C#] play around.
You can even just keep it simple like that.
[A#m] _
_ And then it goes to a minor six chord, which is B minor 7, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ and then [D#] it goes to
a five chord, which is _ A7, [G#] _ and [C#] I'm doing a [E] suspension [C#] here, so it's going from D
[G#] to C sharp.
[D#] _
_ _ _ _ [G#] _ _ Okay?
_ _ [D#] _ _ [G#] _ _ _
And [C#] then repeat. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [F#] And then it [A#m] goes to this _ voicing here, [G#] _
_ [F#] which this [A#] is just minor [Fm] six, five, [F#] _ four, so [A#] _ _
[A#m] for this
voicing, my ring finger is on [A#] the ninth fret of the low E, _ my pinky is on the
ninth fret of the D, [A#m] and then my first finger is on the seventh fret of the G, _ so_ _ _
[G#] _ _ _ So this is almost like this chord, but now my middle finger is on the sixth
fret, but my ring finger and pinky are in the same position as they were up here. _ _ _
_ [Fm] And then, [F#] _ _ [G#m] basically take this chord and just move it down a whole step and you
have your four chord, [C#] but you can throw in the third fret here on the [F#] B.
_ _ [G#] _ _ _ _ _ [F#]
And _ _ [C#] then
back to the one chord, _ _ [G#] _ five, _ which is just an A7, [D#] _ first finger on the _ second fret of
the D, and then [D#m] G is open, [C] middle [G#] finger is on the second fret of the B, _ and then
[G#] back to the one [C#] chord here.
_ Okay, [D#] so again, that [F] chorus, let me try to get the melody
right.
I don't know a full lyric, so here we go.
I [C#] used to talk to my _ kids about [F#] _
Jesus. _ _ _ _ _ _
[A#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G#] _ _ _ _ I [G#] _
used [C#] to talk to my kids about [A#] _ _ _ _
[F#] Jesus.
_ _ _ [C#] Now I tell _ [G#] Jesus, [C#] fail my kids.
_ _ _ So it's also not a full lyric, but those are pretty much the chords, right?
_ And so then,
[D#] from there, we go finally into [G#] verse one.
And so for verse one, [C#] we're going to use
pretty much just these standard shapes.
We're going to stay away from those [C#] big
open shapes, but _ you'll play your one chord here, which is our C-sharp major,
and then you'll go [F#] here to F-sharp major, [C#] then back to our one, _ and then [G#] to our
five.
Now I'm going to play the five this way, where I'm [D#] barring with my first
finger _ the D, G, [G#] and B strings so that you can do that cool _ _ hammer-on sound.
_ Okay, so [A#m]
you're playing these notes, [F] which is ring finger, [A#m] pinky, and then
middle, _ [G#] and then you're going. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Right?
[G#m] And so _ _ [C#]
basically, let's start at the top of
the verse.
So it goes one, _ _ _ _ _ [F#] four, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C#]
back to one, _ _ _ _ _ five, [G#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ back to the one, _ _ _
_ _ [F#] four, _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [C#] then one, _ _
_ _ _ [G#] five. _ _ _
[C#] _ _ _ Okay?
And [G#m] there is this lick that happens that's like [A#m] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [C#] a_and_ then he goes _ back into the chorus. _ So you play your chorus again. [F#] _ Okay? [D#] Now verse two is a little bit different than verse one, and here I'll play it so you can hear _ _ _ _ the [C#] one chord, _ _ _ _ _ [F#] then four chord, _ _ _ now back to the one chord, _ _ _ _ [G#] _ five chord, _ _ _ _ four, [F#] _ _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ now back to the chorus. _ [A#] Okay, so _ [C#] basically, _ _ it's one chord, _ okay, and then we go [F#] to our four chord, _ back to the one. _ Here's where it's [G#] different. You go to a _ _ _ _ _ _ suspended five, and then, Lord, [A#] please help them, on that part, [F#] Lord, [C#] please help them. _ You can add your pinky here to [C#m] the high E fifth fret, and that sounds [F#] really cool. _ _ _ [C#] _ _ It's also really fun to sing because you can use your like country twang. Lord, please help them. Right? _ But anyways, then _ [C#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] we're going to go into the bridge, and the bridge, _ to get [C#] there, think of using this _ _ first inversion one chord where, you know, this is the one chord, but now you have [F] another _ [C#] low note that's different from the traditional open. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Okay, [A] so what's going to happen is you take your third finger [Fm] here to the fourth fret of the low E, [C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
and then you're going to [F#] go to the four chord, _ _ _ _ _ _ okay, which is very similar to what we played [C#] earlier, but I'm just leaving my [F#] pinky up, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ and then [G#m] back to that one chord with the first inversion, _ _ _ _ and _ _ _ _ then this will be our minor three chord. _ _ _ [D#] Okay, so for this, my first finger goes on the second fret of the low E, [C#] _ D is open, [G#] middle on the second fret of the G, and then _ ring finger, or pinky, _ on the third [C#] fret of the B, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ and then it [G#] goes to a five, _ _ _ _ _ _ okay, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ so then it goes [D] back to the chorus, and again that chorus, [C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C#m] _ _
[A#m] _ _ back _ _ _ _ _ [G#] _ _ _ _ _ [G#] _ _
to the [C#] one, _ _ _ now that walk down, _ [A#m] _ _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _ [C#] one, _ _ _ [G#] _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ and you can end [G#] _ _ doing this little [C#] like hammer on, so you play the low _ C [G#] sharp, and this is barring here on the D and E, [D#] _ _ _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
okay, _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ and then that's _ the end. [G#] So I hope you have fun playing this song, I'm having a lot [A#] of fun playing it around the house. _ I hope this video was helpful, if you like it, please give it a [A] thumbs up, and if you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments below, but thanks
