Hello guys, this is AmosdollMusic, and in today's lesson, I'm going to teach you how to play this song called
Shallow from A Star is Born by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
So here [G] we go, give you a preview of the two awesome sections you're going to [B] learn.
It's pretty much like most of the [Bb] song.
Here we go, give you a preview right now.
It goes like this.
[Em] [D] [G]
[C]
[G] [D]
And then repeats.
[Em] [D]
[G] [C]
[G] [D]
And then the [Bm] other section is the chorus section.
[D] It goes like this, check it [Em] out.
[D] [G]
[C]
[G] [D] And then repeats, okay?
[Em] [D] [G]
[C]
[G] [D]
Yeah, and that's it, okay?
[Bm] So let's go ahead [G] and learn how to play these two sections, okay?
So here we go.
So right hand starts with the [F] E here, so middle C, go up an octave [E] C, E, okay?
So it goes three Es
D [Bm] down to [E] B
and then we have
eight [C] Cs in a row.
One, two, [Fm] three, four, five, six,
seven, actually [C] seven Cs, my bad, and [G] then B, [A] A.
And that's it for the right hand.
Okay, so one more [E] time to remember seven Cs, not eight Cs, okay?
So here we go.
So three Es, so it goes one, two, three, D down to B
and then we have seven Cs.
[Ab] One, two, three, four, five, six, [G] seven, [A] B, A.
And that's it for the right hand for this first part, okay?
It's just like that.
All right.
So [G] that's the right hand.
Once you get that, left hand we have six chords.
These six chords are very important because these six chords are the same six chords in both sections, okay?
So here we go.
[Em] Here we go.
Okay, so E minor is the first chord, E, G, B.
The second chord is the first inversion [D] of D major, which is F sharp, A, D.
Third [G] chord, G major, which is G, B, D.
Fourth chord, C [C] major, which is C, E, G.
Fifth [G] chord, G major, G, B, D.
And then the sixth [D] chord, D major, which is B, F sharp, A.
Okay, so it would be six [Em] chords in mind.
So E minor, first [D] inversion, D major, [G] G major,
[C]
C [G] major, G major, [D] D major.
All these six chords in [Bm] mind, the two hands together, it goes like [Em] this.
So chord starts off,
right hand continues,
third E and the chords [D] together,
B and G [G] major together.
And C major [C] by itself, right hand continues, one, two,
and then seventh, C and G [G] major together,
A and D major [D] together.
Just like that.
Okay, one [Em] more time.
It goes like this.
So it goes,
here,
[D] together,
[G] together,
two, three, [C] four,
together.
[G] [D] And that's it.
All you need to do is repeat this.
Okay, [Em] so just like
[D] [G] [C]
[G] [D]
like that and that's the verse section out [Ab] of the way.
So remember the verse section is played twice.
Okay, so verse section is played twice, the motive.
Anyway, let's learn the chorus section now as well.
So here we go.
[D] Right hand [G] goes like this, goes G,
[Db]
[Em] A, B,
and then it goes up to D for either three or four times depending on which like verse you're playing.
So [E] anyway, you can play four D's, one, two, three, four, [C]
C [Bm] and then [Am] B, [Dm] A, B, [A] A like that.
Okay.
Yes, so remember [E] either three or four C's is fine because uh different for the [Em] verses.
Okay.
But anyway, one more time.
It goes like this, G,
[A] A, [E] B,
and then up to D for four times just for saying that's just four times for now.
[D] So it goes one, two, three, [Fm] four, [C] C,
[B]
D, A, [A] B, A.
And that's the right hand.
Again, once you get the right [E] hand there, left hand, exact same six chords in the first part as I [Em] said.
So remember that it's E minor, E, G, B.
And then first inversion [D] D major which is F sharp, A, D.
And we have G [G] major which is G, B, D.
And fourth [C] chord is C major which is C, E, G.
And fifth [Em] chord is G [G] major which is G, B, D and D [D] major again, D, F sharp, A.
So you know these [Em] six [D] chords [Em] already based on the first section we [G] learnt.
[D] Two hands [Em] together goes like this, G and E minor together.
Next, A and the [D] chord together, B and G [G] major together,
C major [C] by itself, right hand comes in,
[Em] A and G major together,
A and D [D] major together like that.
One more time, it goes like [Em] this, it goes together,
[D] together, [G] together.
[C] And then together,
[G] together, [D] together.
Like [Bm] that, okay.
So that's the four D's one on the right hand and you can do three D's as well.
[Em] You can be like,
[D] [G]
C major, you just [C] wait a bit longer.
[G] [D] So you can do that as well.
That's what I did in the preview,
but it really depends on like which verse you're playing.
So you can either do four D's or
three [E] D's depending on the verse and yeah, up to you as well, whichever one
you like better.
Okay, but anyways, that's pretty [G] much it.
So after you got both of these sections very good, very smooth, very even and all the melody chords and rhythm correct,
then you can start to add other improvisation and [Bb] decoration patterns to it to make it sound more awesome.
Okay, so here we go again, left hand.
You can do like a simple kind of like a complement pattern.
[Em] Okay, but like,
[D]
[G] [C]
[G] [D]
[E] [Em] [D] [G]
[C]
[G] [D]
[Em] [D] [G]
[C]
[G] [D] [Em]
[Gbm] [G]
[C]
[G] [D] [G] [Em]
yeah, that's pretty much it.
Okay, so have fun with [Abm] it.

[G] [D]
[E] [Em] [D] [G]

[G] [D]
[Em] [D] [G]
[C]
[G] [D] [Em]
[Gbm] [G]
[C]
[G] [D] [G] [Em]
yeah, that's pretty much it.

[Em] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [D] _
And then repeats.
[Em] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [D]
And then the [Bm] other section is the chorus section.
[D] It goes like this, check it [Em] out.
_ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [D] And then repeats, okay?
[Em] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ [G] _

So chord starts off,
right hand continues,
_ third E and the chords [D] together,
_ B and G [G] major together. _ _
_ And C major [C] by itself, right hand continues, one, two,
_ _ _ and then seventh, C and G [G] major together,
_ A and D major [D] together.
Just like that.
Okay, one [Em] more time.
It goes like this.
So it goes,
here, _
[D] together,
_ [G] _ together,
two, _ three, [C] four,
together. _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [D] _ And that's it.
All you need to do is repeat this.
Okay, [Em] so just like _ _
[D] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [D] _
like that and that's the verse section out [Ab] of the way.
So remember the verse section is played twice.
Okay, so verse section is played twice, the motive.
Anyway, let's learn the chorus section now as well.
So here we go.
[D] Right hand [G] goes like this, goes G,
[Db] _
[Em] A, B,

So you know these [Em] six [D] chords [Em] already based on the first section we [G] learnt.
[D] _ Two hands [Em] together goes like this, G and E minor together. _ _ _
Next, A and the [D] chord together, B and G [G] major together,
_ C major [C] by itself, right hand comes in, _
_ _ [Em] _ A and G major together, _ _
A and D [D] major together like that.
One more time, it goes like [Em] this, it goes together,
_ [D] together, [G] together. _ _
_ _ [C] And then together, _ _ _
_ [G] together, [D] together.
Like [Bm] that, okay.
So that's the four D's one on the right hand and you can do three D's as well.
[Em] You can be like,
_ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _ _
C major, you just [C] wait a bit longer. _ _ _ _ _

_ [Em] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ [D] _ _ [Em] _
_ _ _ [Gbm] _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ [Em] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
yeah, that's pretty much it.

_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ Yeah, and that's it, okay?
[Bm] So let's go ahead [G] and learn how to play these two sections, okay?
So here we go.
So right hand starts with the [F] E here, so middle C, go up an octave [E] C, E, okay?
So it goes three Es
D [Bm] _ down to [E] B
_ and then we have
eight [C] Cs in a row.
One, two, [Fm] three, four, five, six,
_ seven, actually [C] seven Cs, my bad, and [G] then B, [A] A.
And that's it for the right hand.
Okay, so one more [E] time to remember seven Cs, not eight Cs, okay?
So here we go.
So three Es, so it goes one, two, three, D down to B _
and then we have seven Cs.
The second chord is the first inversion [D] of D major, which is F sharp, A, D.
_ Third [G] chord, G major, which is G, B, D.
_ Fourth chord, C [C] major, which is C, E, G.
_ Fifth [G] chord, G major, G, B, D.
And then the sixth [D] chord, D major, which is B, F sharp, A.
Okay, so it would be six [Em] chords in mind.
So E minor, first [D] inversion, D major, [G] G major,
_ [C]
C [G] major, G major, [D] D major.
All these six chords in [Bm] mind, the two hands together, it goes like [Em] this.
So chord starts off,
right hand continues,
_ third E and the chords [D] together,
_ B and G [G] major together.
[D] Right hand [G] goes like this, goes G,
[Db] _
[Em] A, B,
_ and then it goes up to D for either three or four times depending on which like verse you're playing.
It goes like this, G,
_ [A] A, [E] B,
and then up to D for four times just for saying that's just four times for now.
_ And then first inversion [D] D major which is F sharp, A, D.
And we have G [G] major which is G, B, D.
And fourth [C] chord is C major which is C, E, G. _
And fifth [Em] chord is G [G] major which is G, B, D and D [D] major again, D, F sharp, A.
So you know these [Em] six [D] chords [Em] already based on the first section we [G] learnt.
_ [G] _ _ [D] So you can do that as well.
That's what I did in the preview,
but it really depends on like which verse you're playing.
So you can either do four D's or
_ three [E] D's depending on the verse and yeah, up to you as well, whichever one
_ you like better.
[Em] Okay, but like,
_ [D] _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [D] _
_ _ [E] _ [Em] _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [D] _ _
_ [Em] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ [D] _ _ [Em] _
_ _ _ [Gbm] _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ [Em] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
yeah, that's pretty much it.
