_ Hey, this is going to be a tutorial for Naked As We Came by Iron & Wine on the ukulele.
I broke it down into three main riffs I guess you could say.
And yeah, it's just beyond easy so you guys should be able to like _ _ it.
And yeah, _ _ let's get right into it.
_ _ Alright so this is the main riff that you're going to be using.
You keep coming back to this riff a _ lot in the song.
So anyways, yeah, it's fretted like this.
You're going to take your middle finger and you're going to fret the third string of the eighth fret.
_ Yeah, the third string of the eighth fret.
And you're going to take your ring finger and you're going to fret the ninth fret of
the fourth string.
And you're going to just keep your pointer finger hovering over top of the seventh fret
of the second string.
Because you're going to use that in one of the rolls through.
And so anyways, the picking pattern to start goes 4-1-3-4.
So it just [F] sounds like _ _ that to start.
And for the rest of the rolls through it's 2-1-3-4.
So your second roll would sound like this.
_ _ [N] And then on your third roll through you're going to press down on the seventh fret of
the second string and that will [F] sound like.
_ _ And then on the fourth roll through it's just 2-1-3.
So you're going to be open again on the seventh fret. _ _
Just like that.
And all together that's going to sound like. _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] I'm going to play it again a little bit faster.
[F] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _
Alright so this is the second riff that we're going to learn in the song. _
Excuse me.
And so anyways, yeah, for the second riff your middle finger on your left hand is going
to be doing all the work.
And you're going to start on the third string sixth fret.
And the roll changes up as well.
So all you really need to remember is just you start _ picking on the string that you have
fretted and the bottom two strings, 2-1 or 1-2, just stay open the whole time.
_ And the pattern is your fretted string and then 1-2-1.
[Bb] _ Just like [C] that.
So we're going to be starting on the third string sixth fret and it's going to go 3-1 [Dm]-2-1. _
[C] And then you're going to slide up to that eighth fret.
[Bbm] _ _
And now you're going to go [Bb] back to the fourth string, the fourth string sixth fret and it's
going to be 4-1-2-1.
_ And then [Ab] fourth string fourth fret and 4-1-2-1 again.
[Bb] _ _ All together that sounds like. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Db] Now that with the main riff that you start on together would sound like this.
[F] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Gm] _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Bb] _ _ _ _ _ [N] _ _
_ Alright this is the third riff that's used in the song.
And I guess you could sort of call it a bridge except not really.
I don't know.
It's used a couple times.
You guys would have to listen to the song to put it all together if you want to cover
it or something like that.
But this is how it's played.
You're going to bar the fourth fret with your pointer finger and then your ring finger is
going on the seventh fret of the second string and your middle finger is going on the third
string sixth fret.
Now the picking pattern for this one, or actually before we get into that, your pinky finger
is going to stay over the ninth fret of the first string.
You're going to use that in one of the rolls. _
Okay now that we've got all that down.
The picking pattern for this one goes 4-2-3-1.
_ So the first time through [Gb] your pinky stays open.
So [Ab] _ _ _ [G] just [Cm] like that.
The second time through you're going to be down on the ninth fret and _ then you play through
once more and then you play just 4-2-3 on the last one. _
So all together it sounds like. _ _ _ _ _
_ [N] And now the transition from there, right from there you go right into the second riff that we learned.
So all your fingers come up and your middle finger stays down on the third string sixth
fret and then it's right into [Bb] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ your first [F] riff.
_ _ _ [B] So I'll show you that third riff again.
Get it all fitted up.
[Cm] _ _ _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ [Db] _
So I hope that helps.
If you guys are still having problems with it or anything like that I posted the link
in the sidebar where you can find the tabs.
And yeah if there's any questions or comments or concerns about anything I guess just let
me know and yeah just have fun with it and keep practicing.
Take it easy.
