Hi everybody and welcome to this tutorial for Bastille's Pompeii.
A four chord song.
Let's [D] dive right into it.
The first chord is a D chord.
[A] [F#m]
[E] [A] Yeah that's of course
sung by a choir but if you want to copy it on the piano it's done like this.
First let's look at the chords because those notes come from chords.
And also if you want to accompany [D] yours you'll be
perfectly fine by just playing those chords.
I will show you how to play that
synthesizer part as well.
Built out of these chords as well.
The
first chord is a D chord.
D F sharp A and a D.
Yeah so just stick to root notes for now in your left hand.
And the five and the one for this
[A]
is an A chord.
A in your left hand.
A C sharp and an A.
[F#m] Keep on doing the same thing over here
with an F sharp in the bass [E] and then [B] [A]
yeah [E] that's a E.
Regular E.
E G sharp [A] B sus4 and A over here.
[B] Invert it.
[A] And then you have the intro.
Okay now the [D] most basic complement would
be to [A]
two three [F#m] four one two three
four [E]
one two three four.
This is also what happens in the bridge when it
breaks down.
Then you'll significantly hear a piano just laying down those
[D] chords like this.
A D chord like this and first inversion F sharp.
[A] Two three four.
An A chord.
Root note A and E and A and a C sharp.
[F#m] F minor.
[F#] F minor.
Uh [F#m] F minor.
I mean F sharp minor.
F sharp A and a C sharp [E] and an E.
[A] And a [E] sus4.
And that resolves to three.
So then [D] you get one two three.
[A] [F#m]
[A] [E]
Three.
Okay uh then we'll uh sort of [D] make these voicings a little more interesting
interesting and start to uh simulate the synthesizer.
[A] [F#m]
[E] [B] Yeah and you see me [D] just
adding a few notes here and there.
Is now with a this is your [A] regular D.
I
[E] add a nine over here.
[F#m] Then I invert [D] it over here.
Leave out the
root.
Yeah.
[A] Onto the A chord.
Just a regular A as we already saw over here.
[F#m] Now I add a seven over here.
[A]
[F#m] Just keep that A.
Same A chord.
This will be your
F sharp [A] minor.
I add this is a seven.
Add it over here.
Leave out the root and you'll have the same voicing [F#m] as that A.
[E]
[D] So one more once more.
[A]
[F#m]
[E]
So the last three [Am] are the regular E and before that the E sus4 which [E] is E A B.
So um guys this is actually uh the whole [D] thing also once you get to the
chorus then you'll keep on playing those same
chords but you could of course make them fuller.
There is no actual
piano here so
[A]
[F#m] [E] [D]
[A] [F#m]
[E] [D] so this is just an option right play those chords a little fuller um
D's octaves just to make it fuller start by doing octave
[A] [F#m]
[E] [F#m] to [E] an E [A] chord [E]
[A] you can of course add the sus4 as [E] well
resolve onto a regular E.
One tiny variation is played when you [D] sing
how I'm gonna be an optimist about this is how
I'm [A] gonna be an [E] optimist about this two three [D] four so [A] [E] all those chords we
already saw them but [D] they're sort of [A] two three [E] four
[N] in a different order and um different duration but that is the whole song
so these are things that you can learn when you get into chord piano pop piano
uh pattern piano this is what it's built of these are just basic techniques if
you want to get into that and learn to approach the piano like this then maybe
consider taking my course it is all about this it's called hack the
piano else if you like this video please then hit the thumbs up like it share
