Hey, what's up guys?
Brandon Slavinski here and today we're learning Adele's Rolling in the Deep.
Awesome song, super soulful, cool rhythms, cool concepts.
Check it out, we're starting out with the capo on the third fret.
All the things that I'm going to tell you are going to be relative to that [Cm] capo.
So starting off with an A minor, palm muted.
To do that A minor you're going to mute, it's going to be-2-2-1-0. And to palm mute you're going to take this part of your hand and you're going to put it down at the bass of the guitar. Just like that, that's how we're starting off. So now for the chord progression. It's an A minor [G] to an E which is going to be-2-2-1-0-0 to [Bb] a G, 3-2-0-0-3-3 and [G] then we go back to the E [Bb] to the G. So [Ab] check it out. This is how it starts off. And then we've got [Cm] the There's a fire, [Gm] starting in the heart, [Bb] reaching and reaching. [G] Ok so check it out, the rhythm is kind of complex right? It actually gives you another beat [C] on that chord. [G] [Bb] [Gm] So instead of thinking in fours, you're actually [Ab] just giving it one extra, like to a five. 1-2-3-4 [Gm]-5. [G] [C] 1-2-3-4 [Gm]-5. 1-2-3-4 [Bb]-5. 1-2-3-4 [Gm]-5. 1-2-3-4-5. 1-2 [Bb] -3-4-5. That's [Cm] how I would think it. 5-5-5-2-2. That's how I would think about it. [Eb] So, if you're not comfortable with switching up the rhythm and you're like, I need to think in fours if I'm going to sing this song, which is something that I will, it's totally ok. We really want anybody to [A] be able to play this song. [Cm] So let's break that. So, there's a fire, [G] starting in my [Gm] heart, [Bb] reaching through the pitch and [G] it's bringing [Bb] me out of the [Cm] dark. Finally I see [Gm] you, [G] see you crystal clear. [Bb] [Ab] So you get it. We go through the verse, you got that. Now we've got the pre-chorus. We go to an app. And you're going to mute,-3-2-1-1. And [Bb] then we do a G, which we've learned. [Gm] And then we do an E minor, which is-2-2-0-0-0. [Ab] And then we go back to the app. And then we repeat. [Bb] G [Gm] to the E minor. And then, to transition into the chorus, [G] we do an E. So that's-2-2-1-0-0. [Ab] So, the scars [Bb] of your love remind [Gm] me of us. They keep [Ab] me thinking that we almost had it all. The [Bb] scars of your love, they leave me [Gm] breathless. Go to the E minor. [G] And then to the E. I can't help but feeling we could have [Cm] had it all. So now we go to an A minor. [Bb] And then a G. [Ab] And then an F. [Bb] And then a G. And that's for the first chorus specifically. [Cm] [Bb] The [Ab] [Bb] second chorus, when it goes through the second part of [Ab] it, you're going to go from an F. Sorry, sometimes I like to do the full on bar up. F [Bb] to a G. [Cm] And then an A minor [Bb] to a G. And so that's [G] for the second chorus, second part. It just kind of switches the chords back. It kind of reverses them a little bit. [Ab] Also, [Cm] on top of that, the breakdown, you're just going to stay on the A minor. And that's it. That's the entire song. That's all the chords that you need to know. That's all the rhythms, every single piece. Put it together, repeat it, learn the lyrics, post up a video of you guys doing it. Be sure to check out our practice video so we can help you out putting it all together. [Bm] See you there. Hey guys, thank you so much for joining us today.
