Hi, in this video we're going to learn how to play Del Shannon's Runaway.
There's a couple of related videos that you might like to take a look at.
One has got the, there's a nice backing track and the chords and lyrics are there so you
can play along with it.
So that means I can make this video fairly short.
There's another video as well which teaches you how to play the solo and there's links
to both of those from this video here.
Right, let's get straight in.
We'll learn how to play the verse first.
I'm going to assume that you know how to play the chords but [B] the chord shapes will appear
at the bottom of the screen for you.
[E] We're going to start with an A [Am] minor.
There's two bars of A minor [G] and there's a little rhythm going on [Am] in the bass line.
[A] [Am] [G#]
So how we play that is we're going to start with [Am] the A string, then [E] up to the E string,
[G] finger a G [A] and then back to the [Am] A.
[G] Similar thing on G and the little riff here is going to be G, [A] [B] A, [G] B.
Then we're going to [F] play an F.
The little riff on the F here is
Basically you leave your fingers and you're poking the bottom through.
[E] Then we're going to play an E and we're going to do a little walk down from E.
So it's [D] E, [B] [G#] E, [A] A.
That A is the start into the next section of [Am] going
[G#m] OK, shall we try that bit together then?
So right from the top we're going to [Am] start with [E] the verse.
So it's 1, 2, 3, 4.
[Am] Walk around [G] and I wonder what went wrong with [F] our love.
Well, it feels [E] so
[C] [B] [Am] So that's halfway through the verse.
[E] The second half of the verse is [Am] exactly the same except when [E] you get to the E.
Instead of doing a walk down, we're going to do a walk up.
We're going to play E, bottom E string, F sharp, [G]
G, [G#] G sharp [A] and then A.
The chorus starts with an A chord.
So if we just [Am] do the second half of the verse,
so we're going to play A minor, G, F, E with that little walk up.
1, 2, 3, 4.
[G] I feel good.
The wind [F] is blowing through the leaves.
Ah, [E] I love you.
[G] [A] So that's the verse completed.
Chorus!
Chorus doesn't have any little running bass lines.
We're just going to play A for a couple of bars, then F sharp minor for a couple of bars.
Repeat that whole thing twice.
[F#m] [A]
[F#m] When you get to wonder, the rhythm changes.
We still play A, but [A] it's
And I [G] wonder
[A] [F#m] [A]
[C#] [E] [F#m] [D] D
[E] Will stay is on an A, E
And we stop playing for
Am I [A] on A?
[D] [A]
[E] [N] And that's it really.
Just a verse chorus.
There's a solo to learn and there's a link here that takes you off to the solo on the side.
That solo is played over the chords for the verse.
There's another link on the side here which will take you off to a whole backing track
complete with the lyrics and the chords over the top.
So that's the best link for you to take now if you're happy with the chords and the rhythm.
So all you need to do now is subscribe for more videos and I'll [Am] see you next time.
