What we're going to try to do is to play something that is very simple on the guitar
and capture the feeling of the blues.
Many people believe that playing the blues is difficult.
I'm here to tell you that it is not.
I've been playing blues since I was a kid and it was never anything that seemed to be hard.
Now what I'm going to try to do is pass along the feeling of the blues to you.
First of all, we need to understand the feeling of the blues.
Here's where the blues comes from.
There's a situation in your life that you cannot change.
Something that you can do absolutely nothing about.
What you [N] do is sit down with the guitar, play something very simple
and try to express it and learn to accept the things that you cannot change.
First, let's learn the music that we'll be playing.
We're going to take an E7 chord shape
[E] and we're going to move that shape up to the 5th fret one fret at a time like this.
And then we're going to go back the other way.
This is E7, this is E7.
It's just inverted.
So we're going to play E7, raise it one fret, raise it another fret, raise it one more fret, strum it there.
Then we're going to go back the other way and we're going to repeat that process.
So we're going to go 1, 2, 3, 4.
1, 2, 3, 4.
1, 2, 3, 4.
1, 2, 3, 4.
1, 2, 3, 4.
1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1.
Notice that every time we hit 3, we moved up or down the neck.
1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, I measure at E7 up here, 1, 2, [F#] 3, we move back down [E] the neck,

Now we want to get [F] into the habit of playing that until we don't have to think about it [E] anymore.

So, say you have a student loan that you can't pay back, alright?

How in the world am I going to pay that loan back?
I've got to get the man out of my back, oh yeah.
You see what I mean?
