How to Play Solid Rock (On Christ)-Piano by Aaron Ivey of Austin Stone Worship chords
Start Jamming...
Hey guys, this is Aaron Ivey from the Austin Stone, and I'm going to show you how to play
the piano parts for the song On Christ a Solid Rock.
This is one of my favorite hymns, and a friend of mine, Jeff Johnson, kind of rearranged
this song, and we're really glad to be able to put it on the record.
In all of the verses, the piano is kind of carrying this sort of intro hook thing throughout
it that you'll hear.
It's very simple, it's pretty much keeping the root of the [Bb] chord in your left hand, and
then changing chords in [Bm] your right hand.
[C] The only chords that are in that little [G] turnaround part are G, this is the inversion I'm playing
of it, [D] D, [C] C, and [D] D.
All of that, again, is over the root of G.
Inside [A] that, there's just a little bit of melody that I'm putting [G] in there, and it goes like this.
[D]
[C]
[D]
[G]
[D]
[C]
[D]
And that's the [G] whole verse, it just keeps doing that.
[D]
[C]
[D]
[G]
[D]
[C]
[D]
And then depending on what verse it is, sometimes it'll be really low, like quiet, dynamically,
and then other times when those verses are building, I'll really lay into it and play
that a [Am] lot harder.
And then the chorus of On Christ a Solid Rock, kind of moved down a little bit on the piano,
and the chords for that [G]
[C] are
[D]
[G] [C]
[D]
[G]
[D]
[C]
[D]
[G]
[D]
[C]
[D]
So the last part I'll show you is the second chorus, or the outro, which is pretty much
[A] this big build at the end of the song that just says, all my hope is in you, my strength
is in you, life is in you.
And the chords for [G] that are G over B, [C] C, and [D] a D.
And [G] that's it.
[C]
[D]
[G]
[C]
[D]
[G]
[C]
[D]
[G]
[C]
[D]
[G] And towards the end there, I'll actually move away from eighth notes and move to sixteenth
notes with the rest of the band, so it just kind of keeps building.
[C]
[D]
[G]
[C]
[D]
[G]
Alright, so that's how you play On Christ a Solid
