_ [Dm] Hey, what's up you guys Marty [B] Schwartz here of Marty music had a lot of requests for this song
So I'm gonna break down the chord progression right now
You can leave your requests in the comments below, and I appreciate you signing my newsletter at Marty music calm.
Thanks again
Let's break it down alright
So I'm gonna combine
There's a basic rhythm guitar part with the rhythm guitar players using with a pick and we've obviously got the master mark Knopfler
We're gonna kind of combine some of those ideas together to just get you the song progression
We're gonna start with a D minor bar chord
So we're barring the fifth fret it looks like an a minor chord, and we have this one rhythm here
Down up down up up down up up down up up down up up down up up down up up down up and in
between the down strum that it takes to get back to the up is
Muted or you get that scratch percussive sound
_ _ Down up Chuck, and I'm doing it by digging my palm in here
And you can relax the [A] chord _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
now mark Knopfler is strumming with his fingers, and he likes to _
He likes to draw it like rake or drag across the strings for some of these rhythms
You might hear it in house of the rising Sun _ _ _ _ _
_ _ So you can try and throw some of those in there too, but the basic rhythm down
Down up Chuck up down up Chuck up down up Chuck down up Chuck up down up Chuck up down up okay?
So then we're gonna start with the verses and _ _ [Bb] _ [Dm] so that's D minor _
_ [C] _ And then we're playing a C bar chord right here, and I'm [Dm] gonna show you
Knopfler's using inversions quite a bit, but we're gonna do the main meat and potatoes rhythm right now, so
So _ [C] _ _ [Bb] _ we got C whole step down to B flat and then an A chord play a major sometimes
It's a seven.
I think a sounds good.
You can mix that up [Dm] so check it out, _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ so it does that
D minor C B flat a
D minor C B flat a then it goes to an F major to C chord [F] so _ _ _
[C] _ Then _ _ _ [Bb] we do B flat again, you know in the song
_ _ _ [Dm] _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [Dm] First time it doesn't do that
Sultan's of swing line, so we have the very first verse is short so _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [Dm] _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ now the F [F] _
_ to [C] C
Which you could do as a parkour, too. _
_ _ I did that you play C, and you could add
That sus4 which he does a lot
Which you could do with your if you're playing it by yourself you want that root note in there
_ _ I'm adding my pinky to the sixth fret of the B string so the [F] F
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _
_ [Bb] B flat and D [Dm] minor and _ _ [C] _ _ so what happens is it goes down from the D minor it goes down to the B flat _ _ _ _
[Dm] And the first time it just does it once goes back to a verse
_ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ [F] F
_ to [C] C
_ _ [Bb] B flat _
[Dm] Then D minor
_ [Bb] _ _ [C] _ _ _
And _ _ _ _ _ _
[Dm] _ _ _ [Am] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Em] _ [Dm] I'm gonna do a separate lesson on all the licks, but I'm gonna show you those two main tags there
So let's talk about kind of the most recognizable part of the song
It's the D minor and [Dm] _ it's really it's a C chord
But when you have this main parts kind of cool playing these kind of Hendrix major inversion
So we got and [C] _ so I'm just taking I'm keeping the bar on the fifth fret
But I'm not strumming all the way up to the a string um
_ It's more this little cluster here that you'd see from the C major chord
_ _ _ So you got _ [Am] _ [Bb] and then a whole step down which is B flat, but I'm just playing that part of it
_ _ _ [Dm] so _ [Bb] _
_ _ [C] _ _ [F] and so I'm going and
[C] _
So this time you could it's kind of a it could be a C sus4 or a D minor 7
Kind of work the same way, and it's just like this
It's the middle finger on the sixth fret of the B ring finger on the seventh fret
of the D, and we're going _ _
[Dm] so
_ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ So let's see so from the top of the second verse
[Dm] scissors
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
_ [Dm] _ _ [Bb] _ [A] _ _ _
F
[F] Then we go to [C] C _ _
[Bb] down to B flat
_ then D [Dm] minor
_ _ [Bb] _
_ [C] _ _ [Bb] _ _ So you notice that rhythm?
I'm doing up
_ _ _ [C] _ And now the new part [Dm] and [Bb] _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] that is pretty much what you need, but let me show you the two main
He's improvising and filling with just such
Masterful stuff you know
But we've got this one, and _ _ [D] I'm sliding from five to seven on the a string
_ [G] _
_ [A] five seven on the D [A] and then five on the G and
_ [C] _
_ _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ [Dm] Then the other one is these really beautiful double stops.
He does throughout the whole song
[Bb] _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ [F] but not too hard and really fun, and I would recommend you kind of noticing
This is D minor and you can use this for other songs
So it's the 10th fret on the B and G
That double stop and [Em] then
[C] that which comes from C [Em] major and
_ So that's the [E] eighth fret B ninth fret [Dm] G
And _ [Bb] _ _ _ [C] _ _ [Em] _
_ [Dm] _ _ [Bb] _ _ [F] _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _
[Bb] _ _ _ _ _ _ [F] _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ [D] _ _ [Bb] _
_ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Dm] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _ _ [Db] _
_ [Em] _ _ [C] _ [Bb] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ so anytime you have this bar chord like C [Bb] major B flat [G] major which happens
What I did that time
Which I don't know if Mark Knopfler is going all the way some you can see that
[C] actually comes from _
the C major
[Bb] Inversion you got B flat [G] so I have a Hendrix major chord lesson on the YouTube channel
That's using that concept just for you special request
Don't worry the solos coming and I just want to thank you again for supporting me right here
Here at Marty music, so thanks again.
We'll see you real soon _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Gb] _ [G] _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ Gosh close to nothing
_ [Dm] _
