Welcome to Nashville Licks everybody, Barry Driger here with a song I never play, Swinging Doors.
Actually I've played Swinging Doors many times, but you'll find as you play and you do a lot
of jazz, play with a lot of different artists, sometimes you just, it takes on its own life.
The song is such a classic.
Again, Roy Nichols played on it.
I think the beginning part is a steal.
Not sure who played on that, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there that would know that.
So what I tried to do with this one is I tried to pick apart [N] this intro as best I could on
guitar from steal.
Now without using the B bender, I just wanted to be able to use it without a B bender.
And I played it in the beginning at 115 beats per minute instead of, it's a lot faster and
I just, I don't do it, so.
I'd slow it down for the old bear.
Okay, so what do we got going on here?
In the beginning, we're hitting on the G and the B string, plucking at the same time.
[G] G on 12, B on 15, and we're going.
And then we're pedaling on this G.
[C]
[G] [C] So it's a pedal on the G and a pluck on the [G] B and the G string, or the B and E rather.
[C] And then the [B] classic country bend.
[G] [A] Okay, you should be able to see that.
And I got a good camera angle on that.
[C] Outlining [B] C shape.
[C]
And then we're going down [Gm] here.
[Em] Pre-bend.
[G] [Bm] [Gm] [G]
[Em] [D] Brant Mason does that [E] a lot.
[C] [D] Then we're coming up [Gm] here.
[Bm] And do it again.
[G]
And then we're doing a volume swell.
It's on the E string, G [E] note.
[A]
[Em] [Gm]
[F]
[G] [C] [Dm] [G]
[Em] So all together, [A] it sounds like this.
A one, two.
[C] [D] [Gm]
[Bm]
[D] [Dm]
[G] Just a little house note.
Anyway, I wanted to go a little further and do something that I don't normally do.
And as you can tell, I'm kind [N] of missing some things as I go, because it's not second nature.
But hopefully, if you're trying to learn this song, maybe you can take some stuff off there,
kind of get you going in the right direction.
Anyways, now it's for the licks.
Excuse me, I'm going to go ahead and play a little bit of the song.
Excuse me, Barry Driger.
I hope you've enjoyed this.
Check out my 10-part series on some great licks in G.
And the description's below.
And it's absolutely free.
So [D] no worries there.
Keep on picking and keep country music rocking.
[Dm] You [G] know what I mean.
Take care.
