[Em] Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here of Marty Music.
Gonna bring you a classic acoustic song all with easy chords.
I'm actually doing it on a 12 string because it's one of the most classic 12 string songs.
However, it's the exact same as a regular 6 string.
You can learn it the exact same way.
I'm just having fun with a little toy.
Alright we're gonna start with some nice easy chords.
The whole song is made up of great beginner easy chords that you should know.
The first one being A minor.
[Am] Second fret, second fret, first fret.
And this is just the intro without the band.
The band doesn't kick in.
It's a little different.
So it's A minor.
Then you add your pinky to the third fret of the B string.
2, 3, [A] 4, 1, 2, 3, 4.
[C] Then we go to an F.
We're gonna call this F major 7 which would be the [F] high E ringing
out with the F chord.
So it's third [F] fret, pinky on the [A] third, middle on [F] the second, index on the first of the B.
[G] Then a G chord.
I play it with those fingers a lot.
That, that.
Any way you can play a G chord, you're gonna do it and it's gonna work.
So then we get [Am] this.
[A] [F]
[G] [Am]
[A] [F]
[G] [Am]
[A] [F]
[G] [E]
So now let's get a rhythm going and this is just a starting [G] point.
I vary my rhythm as I go along.
But here's a starting point for you guys.
So down, down, down, up, down, [G] up.
Down, down, down, up, down, [F#] up.
Down, down, down, up, down, up.
Up, down.
Down, down, down, [Em] up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down.
[F] Up, down, down, down, up, down, up.
[D] Up, down, up, down, up, [Em] down, up.
Down, down, down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
Down, down, [D] down, up, down, up.
[E] Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
Down, down, down, [F#] up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
And the up strum is when the chord changes.
That one.
That [E] last one there.
Down, down, down, up, down.
That up is the change.
[Am]
[A] [Am]
[A] [F]
[G]
[A] [F]
[G]
Now when the band kicks in, that G chord actually becomes E minor.
[Am]
[A] [F]
[Em] You know, E minor, the easiest chord to learn.
[E]
[Am] Either fingering, put second fret A, second fret D.
So that is now the verse.
But when you play this A sus 4, just, you know, A minor,
adding your pinky to the third fret of the B string is the second [A] chord,
A sus 4.
[Am] A minor, [A] A sus [F] 4, F, G.
When [B] the band kicks in, that A minor sus 4 that we did [A] in the intro,
where [Em] you're just adding your pinky to the third fret of the [A] B,
if [D]
[F#] you can get your thumb onto the second fret of the low E,
that's what the bass player is playing.
[Am] So you get this kind of thing.
[A] [F]
Then the [Em] E minor instead of G.
[Am] [A]
[F] [Em] Now if you can't do the thumb thing, it's just going to [Am] work fine.
[A] [F]
[Em] [Am]
[A] [F]
[Em]
[G] And so with that same rhythm, so so far we've got the [Am] intro,
which is A minor, [A] pinky to the third of the B, [F]
F major 7, [G] G.
So [C] it does that with the singing.
The band kicks [Am] in, spices it up a [D] little bit,
[F] [Em]
and that becomes E minor instead of G.
[F] The next section, same rhythm, and it's just G to F.
So you've [G] got G.
La la la, look [F] down from above.
[G] Do it from the [F] sky.
Right?
So the first time it does [N] that, G to F, it does it twice,
then goes right back to the [Am] A minor.
[A]
[F] [Em] E minor, [E] under the milky [A] way tonight.
[F] [Em]
So the first time it goes to what we call the chorus,
which is G, D, G, G, G, then to F.
It only does it twice, but then as it goes back [G] to the second time,
it does it longer.
G, F, [F]
G, [G]
G, G, G, [F] F.
Keeps going.
[G]
G, G, G, [F] very A-G sounding.
[G]
D, G, G, D, G, G, G, D, [F] G, D, G, D, F.
[Am]
[A] [F]
[Em] [Am]
[A]
[F] [Em]
[Am]
[G] And then there's one final thing that it [C] goes to after, you know,
we're at that part now, and we add a new chord.
We add a C major.
Third fret, [G] second fret, open [C] G, first on B.
And all that happens is it goes [Em] C, G, and then A minor [E] for two patterns
for twice as long.
So [C] C, [G] G, [Am] A minor.
[C] [G]
[Am]
[C] [G]
[Am]
[C] [G]
[Am]
[N] And then that gets you all the pieces of the song,
and it's nice and easy.
If you don't have a 12-string, everything's the exact same.
You've got nothing to worry about, and it's just a great song to add
to your arsenal, so have fun [A] with it.
[Am]
[G] All right, there was a lesson.

[Dm] [C#] [D] Ugh.
[G] [Dm] [F#]
[Dm] [G]
[F] [D] Gosh.
[G] [Dm] Close to nothing.
