Walked [F] alone to the park
Sit down, [Eb] I said, Mark
I said, brother, if you only knew
The way she's doing in my shoes
[Db] Maybe she doesn't give all you [C] did, baby
[G]
Until she [Fm] used you
You feelin' alright?
[Bb] Woo!
Hey!
When you [F] used me, oh
Bye
[Eb] Hey everybody, Mark here.
We're gonna do a song today called Use Me by Bill Withers
and that was a little clip of a friend of mine, Dorian Smith,
who was singing with me at one of my gigs.
He sings it great, and it's a great song to do,
and it's an interesting little guitar.
It's fun to play on the guitar.
So if you get the lick, which I'll show you,
and you get the chords, it's really a great little tune to play.
There's three things you gotta think about.
One's the lick and getting it sort of just right.
The other is the chord, getting it funky,
and there's a lot of dampening.
Really funky song.
So you wanna [Gb] make sure that you're dampening [E] just right, okay?
So the lick is like this,
[D] okay?
Start on here.
We're in the key of [Em] E minor, okay?
So you start [D] here, the fifth fret of the A string,
and you have a hammer on.
[G] And then you go to the D string fifth fret.
So that's your first lick.
[E] And then, [B] so you have to [E] go 7, 5, 7 on the E string now.
Okay, so it's
[E]
[Gm] And then, [E] back to the D string, fifth fret,
seventh fret of the A [Bm] string,
and then [D] [Db]
fourth fret.
That's kind of the neat [A] one.
It takes you to the A chord, [E] which I'll show you.
[A] Now that's an A7.
You might like to play it like that,
but if you play it the jazzy way, it's better.
Much better.
You play index finger, fifth fret of the E string,
second finger on the D string, fifth fret,
third finger on the B string, okay?
Fifth fret, so [Em] you've got that,
and you have the two [Ab] strings in the middle.
Then the pinky comes in right in between
these other two fingers [A] here, okay?
See that?
That's your sort of jazzy A7.
[B]
So you hit that with a little bit of dampening
after [E] you do the lick, okay?
[A]
[A] [B] And you can punch that little A at the bottom there.
It's a nice little [Em] bass note.
[A] So
Da [E]-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
And you can sing it.
My so-called friends,
[A]
[E] feel as they're appointed to see.
They're always,
they're [Gm] always telling me.
[A] You just kinda get into it.
And [D] then it comes to the part,
[Em] and I think you [A] saw Dorian do it in the video,
and you got,
[Gm] [Eb] I'm gonna spread the news
that it keeps on good getting good.
Just keep [F] on using me, [E] yeah, till you use me.
[A]
[Gm] That's about it.
Now the dampening, you [Dm] just throw this hand over.
[D] You can get a funk strumming lesson from someone else if you want.
This is kind of, I do song specific lessons, so you got to learn how to dampen a bit.
Yeah,
[A] have some fun with that one.
[Eb]
That's Use Me.
