Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of the MIT class.
I know my background changes [Gb] like every third video, [Eb] but it's gonna stay like this for a little while.
Um, I'm in college again, so I don't know how often I'm gonna upload.
My [Gb] roommates probably think I'm weird [Gm] just talking to myself in here.
[Eb] So, let's get this over with.
Alright, today I'm gonna teach you how to play What Cannot Be Said Must Be Wept by [Gb] McCafferty.
Now, there [Gm] are four main chords to this song.
Um, there's a lot of lead guitar in this song.
Rhythm guitar is pretty hard to hear.
You can hear it at the beginning a little bit.
Um, so the chords you're gonna need are C [Db] sharp.
[Bb] We'll call this one A sharp.
G sharp.
[Eb] [Gb] And F sharp.
[G] Alright, so A sharp is a power chord.
So you're gonna put your first finger on the fourth fret [Db] of the A string.
You're gonna put your pinky finger on the sixth fret of the D string.
That
[Bbm]
brings us to our second chord, which is the [Eb] A sharp.
Now, it's not really an A sharp.
Um, I don't know what it is.
It's not chord names.
But what you're gonna do is you're gonna [Db] look for that C sharp and you're gonna take your ring finger
and you're gonna put [Bb] it right on the seventh fret of the E string.
[E]
So, you got this [Bbm] shape.
[Bb] Now, another way you can play this is, uh, if it's a little more comfortable.
Um, you can slide, um, your pinky finger down so it's on the sixth fret of the G string.
Put your ring finger on the sixth fret of the D string.
And put your middle finger on the sixth fret of the E string.
[Bbm]
[G] See, there's a slight difference there.
Um, personal preference.
Not exactly sure what, uh, is played in the song.
Either one sounds good here.
[Bb] So, next chord you're gonna need is your G sharp, which is just a power chord.
So, first finger on the fourth fret of the E string.
Pinky finger [Eb] on the sixth fret of the A string.
Now, if you want to be a little closer to the song, I think what you're gonna want to play here is the, uh,
is, uh, your first finger on, [Ab] say, that fourth fret of the E string.
And you're also gonna put it [Bbm] on the fourth fret of the A string, so you're [Db] barring it.
And [G] then you're gonna put your pinky finger on that, uh, sixth fret of the D string.
So, if you, if you play it like this, you won't have to move your pinky finger for those first three chords, right?
So you can, you [Bb] can pretty much keep this shape.
There we [Db] go.
[Bbm]
[Bb] Pinky finger didn't move.
[A] The only move I made was, uh, moving this finger up for that [Bbm] chord.
[Db] And then the final chord you're [Bbm] gonna need is your F sharp, which is just a power chord.
So you're gonna play [Gb] first finger on the second fret of the E string.
[Eb] Pinky finger on the [Db] fourth fret of the [Gb] A string.
[Bbm] And you're gonna play each chord twice, so it's gonna sound something like this.
[Db]
[Bbm]
[Db] [Gb]
[F] And those are the only four chords you're [Cm] gonna play.
Um, and then it's gonna be that same chord progression the whole time, too.
Um, now, it'll sound a little different from the recording, uh, because there's a lot of lead guitar in there.
Now, what it kind of sounds like, uh, [Bbm] Evan is playing on the lead guitar is, uh, this sort of thing.
[Db] [Ab] Right?
[Ab] So it's, he's just, uh, playing the full [Bb] chords there.
[Bbm]
Um, I don't know.
[Eb]
[Gb] [Gm] So, he's just, uh, [Ab] picking [Eb] those strings [Db] individually.
[Bbm]
Like that.
[Bb]
[Db] [Gb] [Db]
If you want to play that, you can.
Um, it'd be a little more accurate, uh, a little closer to the song.
Um.
[Bbm]
[Db] [Gb]
[Db] But, you know, these, these chords, they work just fine.
[Bbm] [Db]
[Gb] [Bb] Um, and that's a good, [Gb] that's a good starting point, uh, for playing the song.
It's just those four basic chords.
So, one more time, we got C sharp, [Db] A sharp, [Bbm] G sharp, [Db] [Gb] F sharp.
[Bb] And that's all you really need to know to play this song.
Um, if you guys want to learn other songs, you can leave a comment, let me know what you want to learn.
Um, if you like this video, you can give it a thumbs up.
If you didn't like it, you can leave a thumbs up anyways, because it's nice.

[Db] gonna check that out.
