What's up guys, it's Thomas from [Ab] Mahalo and we're doing What I [Em] Got Sublime.
Man, this [A] takes me back to my days just wanting to move out to California.
[D] God, Brad, such an influence on music for me and man, this is actually one of the first
songs I learned.
I remember playing it on a nylon acoustic.
Super easy, it's only [E] D and G, so you just have to learn these two [Em] chords.
It's a lot of confidence.
He never really hits [G] this high E string, so we're going to start here at open D and he's
going to do something like this.
Good thing about Brad is that in the studio, a lot of it was live takes, so he just kind
of played with whatever.
It wasn't a set in stone thing, but this is kind of what he's doing.
We're doing a D shape, we're just not lifting up our middle finger, we're just doing second
fret and third fret.
We're just going to go and [Gm]
[D] then we're just going to put our middle finger [Gm] down and that
leaves this finger open.
Sometimes he does hammer [A]-ons on the second fret.
[D] [G]
[D]
Sometimes [G] just D to G, sometimes he'll just do this.
[A]
With the [D] bass, it's like
That's basically throughout the whole song.
[G]
[D] Then he does this cool [A] riff.
[Bb] [C] [Bm]
[B] [Bb] [Em]
Man, [Bb] what a cool riff.
Here we go, we're going to start here.
[E] This is the way I learned it growing [C] up and I see a lot of people [Eb] play this way.
[Eb] There's also another way you can [Bb] play it up here, [Gm] which sounds really [Am] cool too, but it
gets a little [C] muddy.
In the [G] recording, it's really clear.
[Bb] [Bb] Here we are, right [G] here on the fifth fret and seventh fret on the D string.
And [A]
then [C] do the exact same, five, seven.
[Bb]
And then sixth fret on the B string, [Eb] give a little bend, [D] seven, five, seven, back on
the G string.
So [Am] I [Bb]
[D] kind of do a hammer-on.
Okay, and then seven and seven, [C] five, [Bm] five, four, and three.
[C] And then we're going to go up here.
[Bb] That is [A]
[Bb] 11, [Gm] 12 on the G string, 10, [B] 12, [Gm] 10.
[Gb] And some people do this, [B] [Gbm] or [Ab] I think this is what he's [G] really playing.
[E]
[A]
So [Bb] then twice on the 12th fret, then back to 10, [B] pull off, [A] [Bb] 13, 12, 10.
[Gb] [B] [Eb]
Just give a pull on that G string on the 12th fret.
[G]
[D] [Bb] [Bm]
[B] [E]
[D] So
Life is too [G] short to love the one [D] you got, cause it might get wet all, [G] you might get shot.
You can do D and G this way if you want, [D] but
[G] Loving is [D] what I got.
Kind of has that shuffle to it.
[G] And I'll teach you a cool riff that he does at the end of
He does a different version at the end of the album, and this is
He [F] has a slide and he just [B] goes
[A] And he keeps going up higher.
But towards the end, he hits [D] fifth fret.
[A]
[B] [D] [Gm] [Cm]
[D] And that's kind of an ending thing.
And that is a D right [G] here, it's fifth fret on the A string.
And then we're all on [Cm] the low string.
Eight, eight, [A] seven, five, five, seven, [B] eight, seven, [A] five.
[D] Then he hits the five and his octave [D] on D.
Five on the A string, then seven.
[E]
He does like a bend on the seven on the G string.
[Gm] And then open G.
[Cm] Thirteenth fret on the [Bb] B string.
Twelve, [A] twelve again, ten.
And then power chord on D, which is five, seven.
So [E] together.
Five, eight, eight, [A] seven, five, five, seven, [B] eight, seven, five, [G] five.
[A] Sometimes we hit the open A.
[D] And then end on [Cm] that.
But man, that is what I got.
Breaking down for you guys.
[Bb] It's only two chords, so I was trying to give you the most out of it.
And man, Rip, Brad, we love you [Eb] man.
So this goes out to you and [Em] all the other Brads [D] to come.
So [D] we'll see you guys later.
[G] Loving's what we got.
[D] [G]
[Gb] Hey guys, thanks for watching.
