Hello guys, this is Amos Dull Music and in today's lesson, I'm going to teach you
how to play What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction.
I'll give you a preview before we start learning it.
Check it out.
[A]
[B] [E] [B]
[E] [B]
[E] [A] [B]
Yeah, and afterwards you can repeat it.
[A]
[B] [A] [B]
[E] Alright, let's get right into it.
So melody and block chords, that's the foundation.
Afterwards you can add your own improvisations and [N] decoration patterns to make it more interesting.
So right hand, the first part.
So there's actually 4 parts to this, but once you learn the first part, you pretty
much learn the second part and sort of the third part as well.
So here we go.
First part, right hand starts on the G sharp up here.
Middle C is here for reference.
Go up an octave C up to the G sharp is where we start.
[Ab] It's good.
G sharp, [Em] F sharp, E, E, E, E, E, [D] E, E, F [Ab] sharp, G sharp, F sharp.
That's it for the right hand for the first part.
Let's learn it again.
It goes [Eb] G sharp, F [E] sharp, E, E, E, E, E, E, [Ab] E, F sharp, G sharp, F sharp.
That's it for the [E] right hand.
Left hand, we have 3 chords here.
The 3 chords are E major which is E, G sharp, B.
Second chord is A [A] major which is A, C sharp,
E.
Third chord is B [B] major which is B, D sharp, F sharp.
So [E] these 3 chords in mind, so E [A] major, A major and [B] B major.
So it goes [Db] like this.
So right hand starts, [E] second E and E major together.
Next E and [A] A major together.
F sharp and B major [B] together.
[Eb] That's it for the first part.
Let's learn it again.
It goes, [E]
together, [A] [B] together.
[Gb] Alright, there you go.
That's the first part.
Now moving on, the second part is exactly the same as the first part.
So repeat it.
[E] [A] [B] And then, the third part is almost exactly the same as the first part but only the right hand changes.
The second last and the third last note changes.
So same [Db] for the first half of it.
It goes same.
[E] [A]
Instead of F sharp here, we go G sharp on the right hand with [B] the B major.
Then 2 F sharps.
[Ab] So just the last 3 notes of the right hand changes compared to the first part.
So that's the third part.
Just the last 3 notes changes.
It goes G sharp, F sharp, F sharp instead of F sharp, G sharp, F sharp.
So yeah, that's the third part.
Let's play it one more time.
So the third part goes like this.
Same as the first beginning.
Goes like [E] this.
[A] [B] G sharp, F sharp, F sharp.
That's it for the third part.
[Ab] Yeah.
Okay, now moving on.
The fourth and last part changes up a little bit.
It's the what makes you beautiful part.
So it goes G [Dbm] sharp, F sharp, E, [Ab] F sharp, G sharp.
And then 5 more G sharps.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, [Db] F sharp, E.
Yeah.
Let's learn that again.
It [Gb] goes G sharp, F sharp, E, [Dbm] F sharp, G sharp, G sharp, G sharp, G sharp, G sharp, G sharp,
F sharp, E.
[E] That's it for the right hand.
Last time we have 4 chords here.
The 4 chords are E major which is E, G sharp, B.
Second chord is A [A] major.
A is C sharp, E.
Third [Dbm] chord is C sharp minor which is C sharp, E, G sharp.
And fourth [B] chord is B major.
B, D sharp, F sharp.
[Ebm] So these 4 chords [E] in mind are E major, A major, C sharp [B] minor and B major.
With that in mind, it turns together and goes like this.
So right hand starts.
E and E [E] major together.
G [A] sharp and A major together.
G sharp and [Dbm] C sharp minor together.
Fifth, G sharp [B] and B major together.
That's it.
Let's learn [Eb] it again.
It goes [E] together, [A] together, together, [B]
together.
And that's it.
Back to back, all 4 parts of this lesson will be played like this.
[E] [A] [B]
[E] [A] [B] [E]
[A] [B] [E]
[A] [B] Alright, there you go.
[E] So yeah, once you get the melody and the chords of both the left and right hand all good,
consistently correct, then you can start to add your own improvisations and decoration
patterns to make it more awesome.
For example, the left hand you can do like octave, bass note and then like up head joes.
Like [A] that [B] kind of thing.
And then you can do like rhythmic patterns.
[E]
That kind of thing.
And [E] right hand you can harmonize it on the chords, make it thicker in texture.
It's going to be like, [A] [B]
[A] [B] [A]
[B]
[B] [E]
yeah, play around with it.
So yeah, have fun with it.
