Welcome to another lesson brought to you by Learnandtude.com.
Now, in recent weeks we've had lessons of many different styles.
We had something by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a jazz song by John Coltrane and something
by Nicki Minaj.
So, as you can see, we've been all over the map trying to reach out to many different
types of guitar players.
This week we'll be going over a song called Whistle by Flo Rida and a lot of people have
asked me about this one, how to do the picking correctly.
Now, the chords themselves are pretty easy.
There are only four chords in the entire song.
So we'll go over in detail about how to do the picking and strumming.
So let's get started.
Let's go over the intro. _
_ _ _ [F] _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ [Am] _ _ [F] _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[E] _ So what you'll notice is that we need four chords to play this [Am] intro.
First one is A minor and you can find the shape on the PDF sheet that I provided.
So just download that.
A minor.
The next [F] chord is an F.
And notice we are playing this with your thumb playing the low
F bass note, first fret of low E.
As opposed to playing a bar chord F or a standard F chord
that [B] people usually learn.
So the reason for [Am] that is that it's harder to go from A [G] minor to play this bar [Am] chord
F. _ _
[F] _ It's [B] really not quite as smooth [Am] this way.
_ You can play the A [F] minor, catch the [G] bass note and notice your first finger doesn't have to move.
And the third chord is a [C] C.
_ _ [G] _
And the last chord is a G.
But notice, _ if [B] you notice in my right hand picking, we [G] only need the low E, _ the G string
and the B string.
So we don't need to play a full G chord [G#] shape in order to play that.
We only need the low G bass note, the third fret of low E. _ _ _ _
_ So let's slow this down and let me show you more details in the right hand picking now.
[E] The first chord is that A minor we mentioned before and the picking [A] is A string, D string,
[Am] B string, _ G.
So it's_ _ _ _
Now [E] when we switch to the F chord that we played before, [F] it's low E string, D string, _
B string, G string. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [C] The next [C#] chord is the C and that starts on the A [C] string.
A string, D string, _ B string, _ G.
[G] _
And [C] here's that one. _ _ _ _ _ _
As I mentioned before, [G] we don't need that full G chord.
We only need that one note in the bass, the third fret of low E.
So that is picked low E, G, B, G. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ The [Am] next section of this song involves taking those four chords and strumming them.
We have the A minor, we [F] have the F which I'm now playing as a full bar chord, _ [C] C _ _ [G]
and G which
I'm now playing as a full chord.
Because we [Am] don't need to pick those notes individually anymore.
_ So let's go over the strumming pattern.
_ _ [F] _ _ [C] _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [N] _ Let's get a closer look at the strumming hand, the right hand.
The important thing to know here is when you're strumming this pattern, always catch the second
chord on an up strum.
So here I'll give you a demonstration, the first two [Am] chords.
_ _ [F] _ _ _ _
_ [C] So let's slow that [Am] down.
Down, down, [F] down, up, up, down, down.
_ _ [Am] _ One more time.
Down, _ down, [F] down, up, up, down, down.
And we will be doing the same thing on the next two chords, C and [C] G.
So down, down, [G] down, up, up, down, down. _
_ [N] So I very much hope that this helps and a PDF of the complete song is available for
you to download right on the same page that you would see the video.
